Animals skinned alive for what you think is "fake fur"

First off, I wish there were a board titled "Families helping Humanity" because that is where I would post this. I know the cold weather is coming up and to some people, that means breaking out your fur... I would just like to say that first off this is SAD and is no longer IN STYLE. I would also like to take this moment to educate because maybe you do not know what really happens and that animals are skinned alive for our vanity.

I know a lot of people purchase coats and other articles of clothing with the belief that they are not hurting anything b/c it is fake fur. The fashion industry has led you to believe exactly what they want. In most cases, it is in fact, REAL FUR. Especially when you see coats w/trim around the hood. Please take a moment to visit this website and educate yourself so that you can make informed decisions in the future. It is very disturbing but hopefully by you learning a little more about the situation you will then spread the word to more people so that hopefully... one day... this will not happen anymore. Please visit the site, view the video and sign the petition... link

I love animals, adore them. My two chihuahuas are sleeping on me right now and I am disgusted that these fur farms exist, I really am. I just cannot stomach that site ... and others like it (On ANY TOPIC)

ETA: I cannot watch the video because I do not think I can stomach it.

I went to that site and I think it is a bunch of crap filled with extremist point of views and distorted information. This site quotes the following:
"it's cheaper and easier to skin a live, warm animal thats convulsing in agony than a dead body. The whole skin comes off easily and in one piece"
Really who said that?! I am not saying it doesnt happen, I'm not saying that ... but no one would say that. They would say, "its cheaper and easier to skin an animal alive compared to when its not." I am sure they do not get joy and pleasure out of agony. Anyway, I just want to point out while these things may exist in China, PLEASE dont think that this happens everywhere.

As someone who has visited China recently I have to say there are a zillion STEREOTYPES against the people of China ... for instance, that they all eat dogs and cats. I cannot tell you how many ignorant people I met before my trip who would make a comment about that. Ugh, educate yourselves people. Some people in China have consumed dog meat like many other cultures around the world (see link below). What I dont understand is our
standards of being civilized?, the only animals appropriate to be consumed are basically cows, pigs, and chickens. How is a dog greater than a cow? Don't they both feel equal pain when they die? It is ridiculous how we live in such a conformist society, where people select certain creatures to be above others for no apparent reason.

Travelling to China was a great eye opener for me. It is an amazing country with amazing people and, despite the vast amount of western anti-Chinese propaganda, well run by a government who will listen to the people! So many misconceptions ... SO MANY! Even the one child rule is grossly misunderstood. In fact, there are several routes that families can take to have more than one child. Sorry, off topic I know.

Ayyway, people in China who are cruel to animals face real punishments, fines and jail sentences. Many organizations have been created in China to STOP the cruelty and slaughtering of animals.

Re: Animals skinned alive for what you think is "fake fur"

I would never stereotype an entire culture for a small groups behaviors. I also completely agree that just because what we believe is "normal" to eat doesnt mean it is what is right or for that matter, wrong. I have a problem w/any country that treats animals in this manor... including our own. The way we treat animals that we raise for food in this country is sickening and inhumane. The note about it being easier to skin them while they are alive is true, first off it is right there for you to see and from what I have learned, the skin does come off easier when the body is warm... sick, I know. You have your opinion and I respect that. Just wanted to put it out there so that people can know what goes on out there.... including our country. Here is another video on that matter.

I appreciate you spreading awareness for a good cause. I trust your intentions 100%. I feel like it is easier, I understand that. I just feel like its being misused as a quote. Does that make sense? It does to me but its late. Thanks for sharing. I am sure it will get a lot more signatures ... it really is sick what we do to animals ALL over the world. I guess I just didnt want people to see this and use it to add to the misconceptions abbout China and its people.

You said, "I would never stereotype an entire culture for a small groups behaviors." Regretfully, as we are learning more and more about each day ... people do stereotype an entire culture, religion, race, etc. based on isolated incidents. That is why I responded mainly.

I am in a rage right now about that video. And personally, I am full steam ahead in boycotting ANYTHING from China, for a 'world power' that cannot (will not?) put a stop to this, i'll spend my money elsewhere. I have had the most evil and demonic thoughts towards those sub-humans. And I will spread the word against China. And I don't care who takes offense to it.

Umm, these things happen in our country too. The slaughtering/inhumane treatment of animals, slavery, prostitution, and more ALL happen here in the US. We, as a "world power" do not have the ability to end all of the above but we take steps to do so (which is exactly what China is doing). You go spread the word about China. In every country in the world, "evil" things and people exist. So, in keeping with your stance ... guess you can go boycott the world. Hope you know how to sew, grow your own food, make your own pocketbooks ... pretty sure the car that your drive is made from a country where people there do bad things. I also was going to reply later to your other post about Australia ... we went last year. It was unforgettable. I'd suggest, Melbourne and Sydney. The Great Ocean Road tour is something NOT to miss, breathtaking. Although you may want to check up on its practices to see if its on your boycott list.

100% agree I have visited China too many times... due to the fact that I work in the Fashion Industry...

I would just like to defend the industry for a sec from the OP...

#1... It is NOT cheaper to use this fur over FAUX FUR... but its cheaper then REAL FUR, (I didn't watch the video, but I worked in the leather industry and I am assuming it is what they call raccoon dog fur) they are not actually dogs... but an animal that the name translates into dog when its in English... It has become more popular, but def not Cheaper then faux fur...

#2 MANY, and I mean MANY main stream companies do not use this b/c they know that could potentially lose customers due to their beliefs...

#3 Many STORES... won't even allow this to be carried... I did Leather for Macy's, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, and plenty of other brands... Macy's #1 did not allow this to be in their departments... The only fur allowed in their store was in the Fur Vault... I know there was a story going around I wanna say it was Sean John, shipped goods with this fur, but that was a manufacture error, and I believe that they had to take back all the goods. b/c Macy's didn't want them in the stores.

Here is the link... http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20061223/ai_n17072002/

I know your post intentions were to watch what you are buying and obviously not to abuse the animals and against fur etc...

I 100% agree with you, but I needed to just point out a few things that I think you are mislead on within the fashion insdustry...

You're in shock of it? Really? I know you wrote you cannot watch the video, so don't talk about shock. The evil that is on that video is unspeakable, so don't talk about evil unless you actually watch the video, then you can speak on it and compare such horrors to things that happen in this country.

And ftr, I am a vegetarian, drive a dodge and do not buy leather. Yes of course animals are abused here, that's why I don't eat meat. Please don't compare Australia to China. Thats just a ridiculous argument.

It is a fact that in China dogs are tortured before being killed because they think it makes the meat taste better.

I spent 4 months there during my university days.

Feeling the need to correct someone's spelling is RIDICULOUS

I haven't seen the video yet but I'm sure it is very disturbing and horrific. But I have to agree that bashing an entire country of people is out of line. Calling them "sub-human" is awful. I understand issues like this make people passionate but there's no need to go there.

all of this. There may be SOME in a particular country/culture that practice such acts, but to label ALL people living in a country "sub human" is just wrong

And, IMO, it makes you no better a person yourself, no matter how "admirable" your cause is, to label and judge an entire nation made up of individuals. It's actually quite ignorant to do so and strips you and your cause of credibility.

This applies to most countries out there...USA included.

It's terrible. I didn't have to watch the video; watching videos like that is the #1 reason why I became a vegetarian 17 years ago, and live a fur-and leather-free life.
