annoying comments
Most of my friends are single -very single. Whenever my husband and I meet up with them they have usually been drinking and start in on the baby comments. I don't know if it's the alcohol or the fact that they have nothing else to talk to us about, but it's starting to get annoying. Last night, I saw an OLD friend, haven't hung out with her in a good 10 years. She's very socially awkward. When we said goodbye, she said "bye, maybe next time I see you, you'll have a baby." After I thought about it I should have responded "Maybe next time I see you, You'll have a boyfriend..."
Does anyone else get this crap all the time? DH and I haven't even tried yet- we're very happy being just us right now. I have some other health issues that make having a child the farthest thing from my mind....
Just a vent...

Re: annoying comments
I dont think she meant anything by it. If it bothers you when someone brings it up tell them 'honestly I am sick of that question' or something similar and I bet they'll stop.
Telling her next time maybe she'll have a BF would have been harsh...lol

Re: annoying comments
i can understand your frustration. everyone asks/makes comments. I think honestly most people think its the next natural step in life, and that everyone is like them, and thats what every couple wants asap.
Personally, all our friends either single or married all know we don't want kids so they never say it. However, acquaintences who dont know us always ask about when we're planning to have kids. I'm so used to it by now I don't get upset anymore and I just respond "We're happy with our furry kid!" literally thats what i say. HTH

Re: annoying comments
That sounds like it was one of those questions that are part of life...
when you're single it's "when are you going to meet someone"
when you meet someone it's "when are you getting engaged"
when you get engaged it's "when are you getting married"
and so on.
I would just say (joking/nicely) to knock it off.

Re: annoying comments
i wish you would have responded like that
i try not to let it bother me, its the "natural" order of things for most people and i know they dont mean any harm - as long as they dont really push it i just ignore them

Re: annoying comments
I have only been married for less than 2 weeks. However, I am almost positive these comments will surface sooner or later.
I will handle it then.
As for you- I SO would have said "Maybe next time I'll see you, you'll have a boyfriend." It's the same thing- I think she would have gotten the hint!

Congrats on your marriage!
Don't worry, the comments will begin sooner than you think. People just have NO cooth and think all women are put on this earth for the sole purpose of having babies...
Just have some good snarky answers ready and waiting!

Re: annoying comments
See with us--we are the ones in our group of friends that we've had for years, that do NOT have a child. A good friend of ours just had their 2nd baby with his girlfriend.
When we all GTG -- there are kids running around and everyone talks about their kids and such and we are the ones who are kind of odd on out. Then eventually the convo turns to "what about YOU guys" and we have to just awkwardly change the subject or do the obligatory laugh and say "someday" or something
its just those things people will always ask and no one realizes its rude. such is life.
life's annoying questions, that go in order cause its what is expected of us:
While in HS -- what college are you going to? You're GOING to college right??
While in college-- what do you want to major in? what do you want to DO for the rest of your life!
Just graduating college--so what are you doing next? what kind of job you getting? whats the career path?
You're in your career and doing your own thing and single --- sooo when you gonna find someone to settle down with?
You are dating---Soo when are you guys gonna move in together??
You move in -- So when you guys gonna get engaged??
You're engaged--So when is the wedding? Where is it gonna be at? What are the details!
You get married -- So when you guys gonna start a family!?!?
Once kids come -- the questions will then go onto the kid...
So when is little Johnny getting off of formula? Is he crawling yet? How come he isn't walking! Did you check out pre-schools yet? When are you going to vaccinate him? When is he gonna be potty trained?
Unfortunately people being nosey and asking questions that are none of their business--is just human nature in our society...it will never end!

Re: annoying comments
We get that a lot too, especially now that we've been married a while. Not just from single friends either - also friends with kids, our family members, coworkers... I think the only people who DON'T ask are the ones who are also married and don't have kids, probably because they're in the same boat as us and are tired of being asked too I don't take it personally at all, but it does get annoying after a while.

Re: annoying comments
AT our rehearsal dinner, DH's grandmother said to me, "Next year, you have the baby!". Right. I'll have "the baby" when I'm good and ready.

It doesn't even stop once you DO have a DC.
"So, when are you trying for #2? You don't want to have an only child, you know"
After 2: Same gender: "Well, you HAVE to have another one, and try for a boy (or girl, whichever you don't have)" Different gender: *sometimes*, you're off the hook, because a lot of people think that's when you finally have a "complete" family.... Others think that you should be having kids until you hit menopause....
It really doesn't ever end.....
