annoying friend!

so.. i have a friend who i have known since 3rd grade- we grew up together, have been through everything together. we're not as close anymore though because she lives in PA, (2 hour drive) and its just hard to get together.
SOO anyway since we were in middle school, shes been OBSESSED with kids- literally. babysat every chance she got, in HS she bought a carseat for her car just so she could drive around the kids she babysat for Chat Icon
shes now married with a 2 year old son, stay at home mom, her life revolves around her son. now- i can't get pregnant because of a genetic issue, so DH and are looking to adopt when we're ready. my friend knows this. but right now, DH and i are enjoying our lives, freedom, making our house the way we want it, hanging out with our great group of friends. i work with kids everyday and get a lot of fulfillment out of my job.
SOO theres the background. anyway- i haven't talked to my friend in awhile, but everytime i do she brings up the adoption process and asks when we're gonna start and blah blah. its getting old! not all of us are completely obsessed with kids!!
so last night i left my facebook up when DH and i went for coffee. came back and theres a chat message from her just saying " hows the adoption process going?" not "hi", how have you been? hows work? hows the house? hows your family?" the whole thing is already hard enough for me to deal with, i don't need pressure from her- i just want to have one conversation with her where she doesn't mention kids or ask me when i'm having one! GRR!
LOL ok- that felt good to vent that out! thanks for reading, if you made it this far!

Glad you feel better getting it out. Honestly, I would tell her exactly what you said here...you want to have a conversation with her about something other then kids, adoption, etc. She may not realize that you want a break from it unless you tell her.

I was going to say the same thing - tell her you will talk about it when you are ready but for now to stop bringing it up.

Re: annoying friend!

I'm not the most tactful person so when I get tired of hearing the same thing over and over I usually say something like, "Mary, the whole adoption thing is really getting old. Can we find you some new material to ask me about every time we talk?" Chat Icon
