Annoying situation with a child at a restaurant
First off, as a mom, I can totally understand wanting a moment of time to yourself. I can totally understand when kids get out of hand and you need a break...
I was at a hibachi restaurant, and a young couple was sitting next to us, with a toddler in a high chair. For the entire duration of the meal, both parents completely ignored and did not acknowledge the child.
He was between his parents, and my cousin, and he kept tapping my cousin, saying hello, and was basically "left alone" to socialize with us. His mom just about had her back to him the entire time. They were all googly romantic, basically on a date with the kid in the highchair as if he was a backpack tossed to the side. THey did not exchange one word with him. and the adorable kid was in great spirits just sitting and watching the cook and saying a few words and mumbling here and there.
Not judging them, I dont know their situation, but this was a bit hard to see... Yes, he was a happy kid, and no they werent harming him, but come on now... I couldnt believe my eyes...

Call me crazy, but I started a thread yesterday regarding poor parenting skills at a hibachi restaurant and alcohol intake. Maybe the idea of watching people cook your food is misinterpreted as a babysitting service.

babysitting. or maybe they thought the neighbors at the table would take over so they could whisper sweet nothings to eachother.
and this kid had the sweetest most sincere smile and laughter. He was VERY mature for his age. I doubt he was even 4 yet and was SO well behaved.
one time that he poked my cousin, she just laughed and smiled, his mom just turned around and said a few words in spanish to him, with a look of when he was just looking for some attention the poor kid (she was too worried about getting attention herself )
and I didnt have my toddlers with me, so when I saw that we were near a toddler, I was like just kidding and esp at hibachi places, kids have a blast, and you talk and laugh the whole time.
God bless that kid, what a cute little personality he has.

I think that's terrible. As parents it is their responsibility to take care of their child ALL the time, not just when it's convenient. If they wanted alone time, they should have hired a babysitter. I would never, EVER take my DS somewhere and then ignore him. I feel bad for this child because he's stuck with those idiots as parents.

That is just disgusting. We went through something similar on vacation last week. Three little girls at the pool basically adopted my DH as their dad. Their own father was busy getting drunk out of his football mug and mom was downing margaritas like no tomorrow. It was so depressing- you could tell the kids were starved for attention.

How very sad for that poor little guy. These "parents" should be ashamed of themselves.

I was just scratching my head trying to remember who posted about the hibatchi restaurant.
Very sad situation. Hopefully it was a one time deal & they were thrilled to be out.

Re: Annoying situation with a child at a restaurant
It annoys me so much when I see stuff like that. Unfortunately, my daughter searches out men when we go out to latch onto because her own dad basically ignores her It breaks my heart everytime I see it happen
