Another growth sono because of GD.........kinda upset
First let me say that I am VERY thankful that everything so far with the baby is fine. He/she is healthy as am I so I am grateful for that. However, that being said, I was stunned to hear that at 32w5d the baby is measuring a whopping 5lbs11oz!!!!! I literally had to pick my jaw up from the floor. He/she is essentially measuring 3 weeks ahead. I'm just kinda upset because it was so disappointing to be diagnosed with gestational diabetes and since then I've done EVERYTHING they have told me to do from diet to insulin shots. It's still a struggle on some days to get the #'s where they want even with doing everything right and my biggest concern has been the baby so to hear how big he/she already is just scares me. At my sono 3 weeks ago the baby was only 3lbs5oz. Can you believe it??!!
Anyway, the doctor said it's fine and not to worry. I'm doing everything I can and they will monitor me closely. They won't do anything in terms of inducing me early (at least not until the 39 week mark) but he did say that if the baby is over 10lbs it's an automatic C-section. I guess I will cross the bridge if I come to it.
Thanks for listening, just needed to vent a little. I was feeling down.

Re: Another growth sono because of GD.........kinda upset
Another GD victim here......
I totally understand your frustrations... I started off having no trouble managing my #s, but am realizing as the placenta continues to grow and grow and grow, I have to be more and more careful. things I could eat 3 weeks ago are total no-no's right now . because of this, sometimes I have trouble even figuring out what caused the sugar spike
Just keep your chin up, keep doing your best with keeping the #'s in check, andalways remind yourself that growth sono's are notoriously unreliable... they frequently can be off by 20-30% of the weight... (10lb babies mysteriously are really 7.5 lbs at birth).

Another GD mom here....last week she was measuring approx 5lb9oz (33 weeks). I think I might have to take insulin too because my fasting and my after breakfast numbers are all wacky. I have an appointment tonight at 6:30 (as I go every week ) so I will see what my Dr says.

The growth sonos can be WAY off. My growth sono at 36 weeks said the baby was 8lbs 11oz. When he was born at 39 weeks, he was only 8lbs 5oz. So don't despair!

Re: Another growth sono because of GD.........kinda upset
I was having problems with my breakfast #'s too!! Finally, after trial and error for weeks I seem to have found a dosage of insulin that is working. My #'s all and all have been pretty good but then like you guys said, all of a sudden what was working one day doesn't the next. I'm doing everything they tell me to do and everything I can so I know that the baby's weight is out of my control but as you guys know, it's upsetting to some degree.
I'm glad you also mentioned that the measurements can be off.......I've heard that too so I'm trying to take this all with a grain of salt. Thanks for the replies, it feels better to know I'm not alone.

A lot of times they are off on the baby's weight. My good friend had GD and at 36 weeks they told her the baby was almost 9 lbs. Well guess what, her baby weighed less than 8 at birth! XOXOXOX BOTB
