Another insurance question (coverage)
Hello ladies,
We are dealing with MF and will probably need IVF/ICSI
We have Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance coverage. I was wondering what is covered under this insurance???
Like what kind of IF treatments are covered??
TIA!!!!!!

Re: Another insurance question (coverage)
It totally depends on which Empire you have - is it civil service or private (or as my RE said: Good Empire or Bad Empire. If it's Good Empire, almost everything will be covered. If it's Bad Empire - only IUI's are covered, unlimited, but you have to pay co-pays for each visit.
At least that was my situation with Empire - private.

Re: Another insurance question (coverage)
I sound like a broken record but I will keep it short. The NAME of your insurance company has nothing to do with what insurance covers for you.
Your employer makes ALL the decisions.
I work for Empire blueCross BlueShield.
We have over 12000 Employers. Some cover IF treatments, some dont.
So YOU may have the coverage and the next person with Empire may not.
Same goes for all insurance companies....
I hope this helps. Cause I know the insurance loop is crazy and confusing, and I just want to try to shed some light on the basics of it.
I will also add that some employers are covered under the NYS Mandate for infertility coverage. This means unlimited testing, and unlimited IUIS are covered. No IVF unless the employer purchases a "rider" to allow us to pay for the IVF.
Some employers ( mostly unions, and VERY large companies...like NSLIJ, Verizon etc) Are not covered under the mandate, they do not need to follow it.
Whether you have IVF coverage is totally dependant on whether your employer purchased and paid for it when you joined. Most small companies wont because its it MEGA expensive.

I am looking for a job with IVF benes, any ideas of which companies offer it? Some companies list this benefit on their websites, but most do not...and this is not a question one can ask on an interview....
TIA

The only two I know off hand is NorthShore LIJ and Suffolk County employees.
Those are the big ones.
Most companies dont offer it.

he's going to be starting a fellowship there. As a doctor. I don't think it's a union job? I may be wrong, though
