another nap question for newborn moms...
how do you get your baby to nap? All of a sudden Casey ( 2 1/2 months) is turning into a catnapper... And I usually have to rock her a little with a paci or nurse her and she falls asleep but when I put her down she wakes up... Lately even in the car she is waking up after 20-30 minutes...
Also, has anyone started putting their child down drowsy but awake at night? I still can't, she just fusses and cries...

I usually put DS down awake at night and honestly it's hit or miss whether or not he'll fall asleep. If he gets really fussy I start by rubbing his belly then I offer him a binky and if all else fails I take him out and rock him to sleep.

Re: another nap question for newborn moms...
Oh yes...Lainie was the same way. I had to hold her all the time. I think I was creating a bad habit so I just started to place her in her crib at around 3 months...she cried. If she got to the point where she was out of control sobbing, then I would pick her up. Evenutally, she understood, ok, this is where I take naps and now at 10 months she just goes right down with no issues. It was hard for me because I didn't want her to cry. It drove me crazy! Definately get her used to taking a nap--keep it consistant and the same times everyday. She will sleep so much better at night.

It's hard to have her nap the same time everyday (although I try)b/c I have a 23 month old as well so I get busy with her blah blah...but strangely the baby sleeps well at night...
jes81276, how old is your baby?

Re: another nap question for newborn moms...
DS is 9 weeks, and he catnaps too. He will take one longer nap sometime during the day or early evening, but the time he does this is all over the place. He doesn't sleep much during the day overall, but he does sleep pretty well at night.
At this age, I don't think they follow a true schedule. I think I read around 3 or 4 months that may start, though I want to ask my pediatrician when we should try to get him to sleep at certain times.
Does DD like her carseat or stroller walks? He usually conks right out when we go in the car or stroller, if that works for her, you could try that to get her to nap.

Re: another nap question for newborn moms...
DS is a cat napper if anything. I need to rock him to get sleep out of him at all. But right now he fell asleep in his swing, sometimes in the car. But I rarely get a good solid nap out of him. For instance yesterday from 9:30am until 11pm he slept all of 1.5 hours MAYBE all in 20-30 minute increments.,
So I am no help, but my theory is that I would rather deal with no sleep during the day than at night and DS is sleeping well at night 7-9 hours straight and then up for a bottle and back down for 1-3 hours.
Good Luck!
