Another paleo post! For newbie!
So I'm considering trying this. I'm really trying to stay away from processed garbage and sugar. I just have some questions since I never did a diet like this before:
1. What do you eat?!? The diet seems super limited. Theres only so much of one type of food I can take before getting bored. Kwim?! I can only have so many eggs for breakfast before getting bored and sick of it, how can a smoothie fill you or replace a meal?! And salad?! Eventually lunch would become pretty bland and boring. It doesn't seem possible to not only eat enough calories but to have some variety.
2. I'm a runner and I'm into distance running. Would this affect it negatively? How can your body run without carbs as a distance runner?
3. I DO NOT want to lose any weight. My main reason for doing this is to better my lifestyle and eating. You read such scary things about GMO's and processed food; it's scary so I want to make a change, however I'm at a perfectly fine and healthy weight. I'm afraid with a diet like this I would lose weight that I don't want to lose. I'm at my happy weight.
4. How do you eat enough calories? It just doesn't seem possible. Are you always hungry? How do you deal?
5. I'm assuming its a hard adjustment. How long did it take to get used to or did you ever get used to it? Are you happy with it for reasons besides weight loss?
Thanks in advance!!!!!

Yay! I'm happy you are giving Paleo a shot! As a runner as well, I did have to cut back on my running to allow my body time to adjust from primarily burning carbs to burning fat instead. The first few runs were tough, but now I'm running just as well if not better than before! Make sure before you run, have a good combo of carbs and fat, maybe a banana with almond butter, or paleo bread with both!
My favorite websites for paleo recipes are: http://paleomg.com/ http://www.elanaspantry.com/
There are lots of ideas on there, even more if you are not pescatarian like me.
Trust me, if you include enough healthy fats, you won't be hungry at all! Add at least 1/2 - 1 cup of full fat coconut milk to your smoothie and it will keep you full way past lunchtime. Whenever you have veggies, don't be afraid of the olive oil or coconut oil. Have a good serving of fat with every meal. Eat at least an avocado or two a day. Snack on nuts too!
I aim for at least 50% of my calories coming from healthy fats. Some people aim for 75% on the paleo diet.
I assume I've been eating way more calories than I used to. I certainly feel full every night when I go to sleep!
