another Petro scam! please please rec your oil company.
so i posted a few months back about all these issues i had with Petro oil. a rep contacted me who i got in touch with initially very nice at first telling me she'd give us drop dead rates over the summer. when she did email me, the rates were higher than the rate on a flyer from petro looking to get new customers. when i pointed it out to her, never heard from her again. NOW i get a letter from Petro saying that our pricing plan has automatically been switched to a variable rate pricing plan so we'll be getting oil delivery and for ANY reason we want to terminate, we'll be charged a nice termination fee. are you serious???? i don't believe this. this oil company is worse than the mafia. i'm looking into discountfuel.com. but please can anyone recommend your oil company if you've had good rates and experience with them? Petro is the worst ever. and rep, please don't go about posting superficially nice replies to this thread and then sending take it or leave it emails to me. LIF please moderate! soo upset right now!

You have to sign a contract with them. Quite honestly, all the companies do it. Your first year, they give you a low price, then the second year they jack you up. Thats why every year I get a different company.

Your contract switches to a variable rate plan after the year is up. There is no termination fee to cancel after you satisfy your year.
Only new customers get the flyer promo prices. I have found that if I have them quote me out an oil price, i'll tell them no thanks and I usually get a call from them a few days later with "better" pricing. I actually got them to lower their price four times before I actually agreed.

according to this letter, petro will charge a cancellation fee under the variable plan. see, that's the thing, it's ridiculous that you would have to call 4x to get a reasonable rate. waste of time, effort and energy. and it's just bad business practice. no wonder why everyone's switching to gas
someone fm'd me about Lewissy... has anyone used them?
still sooo upset with petro.

I hate to say it but all the oil companies are like this. They give you a low rate as a new customer and then will not give you the low rates as a return customer. You have to switch year after year to get the super low rates.

I've had Petro for over 10 years and never had an issue. DH calls to negotiate pricing around the time our contract is ready to expire. He watches the oil market and will wait them out if he doesn't like the rates.

Re: another Petro scam! please please rec your oil company.
Posted by babyberry according to this letter, petro will charge a cancellation fee under the variable plan.
When you sign up for a contract (whether it is fixed/variable/ceiling) there is cancellation fee if you break it. When your contract is up, you can tell them to no longer deliver oil and that you are going with a different company.
My service contract is up 7/31 so I called them on Friday and told them we are not renewing and do not deliver any more oil. I followed up with a letter just in case.
If you don't trust your rep, call the main number or email them and just ask "what is the end date of my contract." After that date you can cancel the contract without fee.

Re: another Petro scam! please please rec your oil company.
We use a coop called Heat USA and they negotiate rates with local companies..the fee is about $20/year and they've actually called me to audit oil prices over a year's time to make sure we were getting competitive rates..perhaps this is something to look into...whenever they've charged us for things not on our contract, they have negotiated lower prices for us as well..
