Another question about internals

Can having an internal actually make you go into labor??? I know this is probably a stupid question but my friend who just had a baby, told me to avoid having one if I could. Is this true??? I am scheduled for the strep B culture 11/8 and the dr. said something about an internal. TIA!

I think that depends on your doctor. My first internal was so gentle I barely felt it. The 2nd one she felt around a bit more and I bled a little afterwards - but I'm still here and I didn't get any cramping from it. I think sometimes doctors will help move things along - but if you are on schedule where you need to be - I don't think they will be rough with you! HTH!

I barely felt my first one. My second one hurt, probably because he was feeling around more and went deeper. I was cramping the night after the second one, but no labor symptoms. The Dr. said that they can sometimes "move things along" during an internal by sweeping and thinning out your membranes, but they don't do that automatically, they will tell you they are doing that if it's time for you to get things started!

Ive had one every week so far for the past 3 weeks. I am now 1 cm dialated. Dont know if it sped up things but I didnt bleed or anything like that.
