Another Question RE: Best Friends Dog Training
So DH and I went to check the place out last night. We were very impressed with the dogs there. However, for those of you who have used them, does your dog listen to you without the collar on? We are really considering using them but i don't want my dog to listen to me based on wheather or not the collar is on. Evetually i would want the collar off but to still be in control of my dog. TIA!

Re: Another Question RE: Best Friends Dog Training
did i see you last night??
for me, no they do not listen to me without the collars. well, i won't say never - but not more than they did before the training. our trainer says they will eventually, but it is a process and it takes time. honestly, i would be ecstatic if they listened without the collars, but i am so happy with their improvement with the collars, that i don't even care right now lol

Re: Another Question RE: Best Friends Dog Training
OMG! I didn't even realize that was you. Yes DH and i were the one's with the baby pit mix, Phoenix. We were very impressed with what we saw last night and are considering using them. I like how they did the activities and made it kinda like a game i guess for the dogs. Have you seen any of the other dogs there without the collars? Do you keep the collars on your dogs all the time?

It takes time. 90% of the time Max listens with out the collar. But he is a boxer and very stubborn.

Re: Another Question RE: Best Friends Dog Training
Thanks :) DH and i decided tonight that we are going to use them. Phoenix has to be 4 months so we have to wait 2 weeks but then we are going to start. My dad is going to use them too so we are gonna train them together. I feel better knowing that she wont have to have the collar on all the time.

Re: Another Question RE: Best Friends Dog Training
are u the one that didn't realize class was outside? sorry, i'm in my own little world sometimes honestly, no i don't keep the collars on them all the time. we're "supposed to" but we don't. my issues with ava and quinn were mostly when people came to the house or when we go for walks. somedays, i leave the collars on for most of the day - but it's rare. more often than not, i only put them on when we go for a walk or if i know someone is coming by the house for whatever reason. for quinn, just having the collar on makes him behave. i almost never have to press the button when we're walking. ava - she doesn't care quite as much. she listens, but sometimes it takes some "coaxing" that was only the 2nd group class i'd been to. we did the at-home training - i guess 4 or 5 sessions and then the past 2 wednesday nights we went to the group classes. they aren't near what some of the other dogs are like on the behavior scale, but i'm still a proud mama - they definitely behave better than i expect! as far as i can tell, all the dogs always have their collars on for training. even when john (the trainer) came to my house with his own dog (whose behavior is crazily impressive i must say) - even he has the collar on. glad you decided to go with it... i think you'll be happy you did.

Yep! That was me. They said that if it's too cold they do the classes inside. We are going to call them next week and set everything up. We can't wait!

Re: Another Question RE: Best Friends Dog Training
I swear Murray knows when the collar is on and when its not and listens a heck of a lot better when its on. When its off, its 50/50 of him listening.
Buit Murray is VERY smart

Re: Another Question RE: Best Friends Dog Training
we almost always have the collar on Jameson except for when she's sleeping. however, sometimes if i try to get her in the crate and she doesn't want to, i pick up the remote and say "do you want the beeps", then she goes into the crate so i don't even have to "beep/tap" her and she'll go. she just knows that the annoyance of the collar will start if she doesn't listen.
