Another unemployment question.

I know you can work p/t and still collect you just can't work more than 3 days or make more than $405.

Here's my question.

It states if you work 1 day UE deducts 1/4 of your benefits.
So, if I was eligible for $400 they would deduct $100 for 1 days pay. Even if I would not be making $50 for the day from the p/t job.

Is this correct? Or do they deduct what I make for the day from my benefits.

I got to say...if they deduct the full $100 why would I work? I would be making more on UE. Instead, they should deduct what I make from what I'm eligible. Wouldn't that save UE money?

TIA for any input

I didn't think you could work at all while collecting unemployment so I'm waiting for the answer too!Chat Icon

Re: Another unemployment question.

I don't know the answer but you can certaily work while collecting. The benefit will be reduced but I don't know by how much.

I guess the benefit is that you are working and it could go full time which would be way better than being on UE.

If the scenario plays out the way you stated, no I would sit on my butt and collect and try to find something off the books.

You have it right - regardless of what you earn, they will deduct 25% of your benefits for each day you work. It's in the handbook and was verified at the orientation. It s*cks!

That really sucks.
I have a p/t job that I really like. But they can not offer me f/t and I do not get paid daily what UE would deduct for the day of work.

Really makes no sense for them to do it this way. I would like to continue working but not at the expense it's going to cost me. Chat Icon They should just pay you the difference it would save them so much money!

Thanks for the confirmation.
