Another vent...

Maybe it is me? Here I am thinking all of these interviews are going great, but maybe I'm an idiot in the interviews? I haven't noticed me screwing anything up? I don't know.... Chat Icon

I have a friend who is going through the exact same thing. She is an amazing person and any employer should be happy to have her. I can't imagine she interviews poorly at all, based on the way she presents herself around others in general.

I know it's hard not to, but try not to take it personally! In most cases, it's the employer and has nothing to do with you at all.

Re: Another vent...

i know how you feel here as well, to get calls for interviews but not the job. Here are some little things I learned along the way:

- always smile and look interested
- show expression when you talk
- show your enthusiasm for what you've done and your industry in general
- talk about how wonderful your past employers have been (even if it's a lie)
- Be genuine
- Be honest

At the end of the interview or whenever you feel is a good time, make a point of saying something like 'I'm very excited about this opportunity and would love to work for you.'

saying the 'love to work for you' part is a big one, imo. now i always thought that if you go on the interview, follow up, go on a second interview (assuming the invite is extended) that you are demonstrating you want the job but apparently that isn't always the case. So tell them you want it even if you don't, then you're the one with the power WHEN an offer gets extended. And it will!!!!

Are you sending out thank yous by email or snail mail? I recommend snail mail and I also recommend getting some nicer cards. I spent a little extra money on some at CVS of all places - they were a little pricer than the others they carried - almost $1/card, but they did make an impact so I felt it was worth it. Several people commented on how nice the cards were.

You WILL get something!!!!!!

ETA: also, when you go in for a second interview, try sending a 'looking forward to seeing you again' email. it's all about enthusiasm!

Yes do not send your thank you out by email. I just took a workshop at Hempstead works and the teacher made it a pint to tell us this. He said only to send them by email if the interviewer tells you they are going to make a decision in the next 2 days. If not get some nice paper and send out the thank you by snail mail.
