anti depressants while TTC
Are any of you familiar with any RX medications that are safe, or remotely safe to take while TTC for depression? TIA

Re: anti depressants while TTC
Prozac/zoloft/celexa/lexapro (most of the SSRI's) are considered to be in a class similar to Tylenol. ie there are risks but they v.v. rare. Some of them have to be discontinued when breastfeeding but many woman take them throughout pregnancy and have perfectly happy healthy baby I would talk to a psychiatrist about it/cross ref. with an OB who is supportive

Re: anti depressants while TTC
I have spells of bad anxiety and my therapist and OBGYN recommended zoloft and my OBGYN told there is no problem with me staying on it throughout my pregnancy and that many of his patients are on it. I am on the lowest dose, just to take the edge off and he said that the small amount of meds is better for me and baby than the effects of what my anxiety can have on me and baby.

Re: anti depressants while TTC
I would check with your OB....i was advised to limit taking mine while TTC (only when absolutley necessary) and that i should not take at all when pregnant.
I havent taken it once since TTC b/c i read it stays in your system for 6 weeks and i know i would be too paranoid if i got pregnant.
I found this article which gives info on different meds:

Re: anti depressants while TTC
I was told that if the benefits to you out way the negatives to the baby you can stay on it.
I was taking Paxil CR and it has the most listed possible side effects. I have chosen to not take durning pregancy unless absolutely necessary then I will take a different one. Two of them that my DR's agree on would be either Zoloft or Prozac.
I think that it is something you should discuss with Dr who prescibes the meds and the OB/GYN.

I was on Lexapro and my OBGYN instructed me to come off of it at least 6 weeks before TTC. She told me it should not be in my system at the time of conception.
I've always heard that Zoloft was the safest during pregnancy. But as other posters have said, it's best to have a discussion with your doctor. I was very concerned and nervous about coming coming off of Lexapro. I had a hard time at first. I ended up being fine without it, with only occasional panic attacks. You and your doctor have to weigh the pros and cons of staying on an anti-depressant while pregnant. A good doctor will listen to your concerns and formulate a plan with you.
