Antoinette and other reflux moms
How are we all doing today? We had a rough evening yesterday but a good night's sleep at least. I hate hate hate this throwing up. When she chokes and it comes out of her nose it scares the crap out of me. Luckily we don't get many of those but none would be fine by me.
Also by some miracle Miss Miranda has been napping for 3 hours. That is almost unheard of in our house during the day.
Antoinette-Are you feeling any better today? I am going to make a grocery list of that food list I sent you. I am starving here with nothing edible on this milk free diet in my house except and apple and peanut butter. Have you made any more decisions about BFing?

Re: Antoinette and other reflux moms
Joseph symtoms aren't that severe - he gags and chokes when he eats and sounds very raspy/weezy. I don't know if the zantac is actually doing anything, but he's still on it. He'll only nap during the day if we go out. So, I've been spending alot of money lately trying to get him to sleep for 3 hours I too try to watch what I eat, but more so keeping away from the spicy things that may irritate him..

Danielle the Zantac didn't work that well for us but the Prilosec seems to be a lot better. We still have some bad days/episodes but she seems much less uncomfortable. It might be something to talk to you ped. about if the Zantac still isnt helping after a while.

Re: Antoinette and other reflux moms
I dont know too much about this but-
I use to nanny a few years ago, and the little boy I took care of had severe acid reflux... He went from DR. to DR.and tried MANY different medicines...
The final outcome was one DR. told his mother to put minute amt. of cereal in his formula (or milk) to make it a little heavier so he wouldnt spit up, and to do the obvious and keep him upright...
I know cereal in the bottle is a trivial things and has neg. reviews... but in his case it worked wonders... He was a totally different child... He was a little bit older than your babies though...
Im still friendly with his mom..so if you are interested in more accurate info..I could get it for you... but I thought I might pass this along...
Again- Im not saying I agree with the cereal in the bottle...but it was under her DR.'s intructions and worked wonders!!!

Re: Antoinette and other reflux moms
Jen, Im doing ok today thanks for asking- he is still spitting up alot but he doesnt seem in pain and there were no brown flecs in it. I decided to wait until my appointment on saturday to decide what to do- Im going to talk to the dr and also I will see how much Bryan has gained--- the Zantac doent seem to be helping him too much with the spit up but he is not in pain witch is good. I just dont know if he's gaining enough. Im still bf at this point until I talk to the doc about a possible insurance coverage. Im still going to be sad to give bfing up. I also want to try another meds and see if they work better than the Zantac. Bryan slept thru the night last night- but it took him an hour of wailing to get to sleep ( we are trying the cio method becuase he will not sleep anywhere besides our bed and we fell at almost 5 months this is developing a unhealthy sleep habit.)
Im going to also see about him going on Prevacid-- I herd its alot better than the others.

Re: Antoinette and other reflux moms
Miranda has done much better on Prilosec (same family as Prevacid) than she did on the Zantac but it hasn't been a miracle cure for us. I hope you GI will let you switch and try it out.
I've asked my ins. about covering formula since I need to supplement with it and I got a big fat NO. And she will not take Alimentum powder, we have to buy the ready to feed. That's the only way she'll eat. She still doesn't eat very much. I would say 12-16oz a day and she's 8 weeks old. I am guesstimating based on how much I can pump since I can't measure when she breastfeeds. She's gainig but still behind schedule with that.
