Any Aciphex or reflux medication users??

DH takes Aciphex daily and our prescription coverage is getting worse, causing us to pay more than the high amount we already pay Chat Icon

DH is hesitant to swtich to a cheaper brand since the Aciphex works well for him. Anyone have experience switching to another brand and it working just as well?

i was on aciphex and was forced to switch b/c of insurance to prevacid and actually the prevacid ended up working even better. maybe he can explain to the doctor and get some kind of trial to one of the other medications to see if it works before committing.

I take Aciphex also and just got notice that our copayment is going up for it. I have tried Prevacid and it worked ok but not as well as the aciphex for me. I got a discount card by signing up on the aciphex website and it discounts my copayment til the end of the year. I will probably continue to take the aciphex because it really does work best for me, but I know several people who use Prevacid or Prilosec and have good results. It really is frustrating when insurance changes force you to have to change medications.

Re: Any Aciphex or reflux medication users??

When I worked in Pharmaceuticals, I sold 2 different PPI's- which means Proton Pump Inhibitors. This is what Aciphex is. These medications shut down many of the pumps in the stomach that produce acid. They are not the same as say a Tums or Axid. Those medications neutralize the stomach acid.

All of the PPI's are effective. So he can use a different one and will have similar results. Drug companies get their product on insurance company formularies, that is how your insurance company decides what they will cover and what the co-pay will be.

So, if they offer another product for a lesser co-pay, go for it, it will be fine. If you can buy a monthly supply of a generic for less than your co-pay, then that is fine too.

Costco had generic Prilosec for a great price a few months back. He can also try Nexium and Prevacid.
