Question For Born Free Bottle Users And REFLUX
Does anyone who uses Born Free Bottles like myself know if any other brand nipples fit our bottles that allow rice cereal to get through? My one month old has terrible reflux and our next try is rice cereal mixed in. I don't like the idea AT ALL of making a slit in the nipples. Some site I read mentioned Playtex Ventaire Advanced nipples work on our bottles to get the cereal through. Anyone know? Or advice?
Thanks!!

Re: Question For Born Free Bottle Users And REFLUX
My DD has been having RC in her bottles since she was 2 weeks old.
I didn't slit her BF nipples til she was about 5 or 6 months old, and I bought them for her when she was about 2 months old.....
I never even bought her the variable flow and Stage 2 nipples til she was around 7 months old.

Thanks for your reply. Then how do you get the Rice Cereal to come through the nipples? I'm confused!

She got it through with no problems.
May I ask... how much RC are you putting into the bottle?

Re: Question For Born Free Bottle Users And REFLUX
Nothing YET, I was told 2 tsp for every ounce..no? I am using level 1 nipples..slow flow..she is one month old. I am afraid to start the RC. She spits up so much. We are using Nutramagen and its better then others we've tried but she still spits up a lot. Alos, she gets the hiccups and is so gassy. I keep thinking should I change bottles, what? My DR doesn't want hre on medicine unless its totally necessary ( like weight loss) which I am happy about.

OK... so I'm going to tell you what my doctor told me so that you have another perspective.
Per ounce of formula, he had me put 1 tsp of RC in her bottle. My doctor as well preferred for her to be on RC before resorting to meds, and I'm so thankful for it b/c at roughly 7 months old, she no longer needed ANY RC in her bottles!
Another thing that I'm going to suggest to you is some kind of gas drops whether they are by Little Tummies, Mylanta, or Baby Gas X (which will help her bring up any gas), and also Gripe Water which helped my DD with hiccups and tummy issues.

Re: Question For Born Free Bottle Users And REFLUX
my baby has reflux and I was told to put one TSP of RC in his 4 oz bottle, and he is on zantac. For some reason, I'm more scared to put RC in his bottle (we use born free as well) I've only been using the zantac. we tried the RC a few times so I used playtex drop in bottle w/ the MED flow nipple. good luck@

Re: Question For Born Free Bottle Users And REFLUX
I took my DD to the ped today due to a bad diaper rash. After dealing with that, I told the doc that she is really gassy, hiccups all the time, ALWAYS spits up/vomits a large amount of her formula. She has gained weight so the doc was happy about that. Her stool was tested and she does not have a milk allergy. The doc said that it sounds like she has reflux so he told me to:
- switch to from Similac Advance Early Shield to Similac Sensitive RS formula [It is new and has Rice Starch in it to reduce spit up/decrease gassiness] - switch from Born Free bottles to Playtex Drop-Ins to reduce the amount of air she takes in - burp her very often during feedings [every oz. or so] - Make sure she feeds with her back elevated as well as after she's done feeding to help reduce spit up/vomiting - give her Mylicon drops after feeding for gassiness if needed [no more than 4 times per day]
I hope this info helps you!

We were using the Born Free bottles with Emerson and she started having a lot of spit up issues so we switched her bottles to the Playtex Drop Ins (instead of changing her formula which we were hesitant to do) and she's been great since!! The Drop Ins are so much better, there is pretty much no air in there so now when she burps nothing comes up. I think she was taking in way too much air with the Born Free bottles. Maybe try a different bottle as well.
