Any Brooklyn girls on here?
Now that I have my BFP, I need to find a new doctor. I live in Park Slope, and my dr. is affiliated with a hospital in Staten Island. I don't want to give birth in Staten Island -- too far. Also, my dr. is not at the Brooklyn office often enough, he's at the Staten Island office most of the time. So, my question is, has anyone had any experience with these hospitals: Methodist hospital (Park Slope) Lenox Hill Hospital (NYC) NYU -- and do you know a dr. there who takes GHI?
I always thought I had to use Methodist because it was closest, but tons of people told me they used NYU and loved it and it wasn't a big deal to go from Brooklyn into the city. However, my friends who loved their doctors just found out that their doctors no longer take GHI.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: Any Brooklyn girls on here?
hello!
i'm in park slope too and have GHI. i'm using the park slope midwives and LOVE them. they're seriously amazing, easy to get appointments with (including late night), easy to talk to, knowledgable, etc. i've only been to methodist for my level II and glucose test/rhogam shot but i've loved it there too. nice and clean, great staff, no problems. the people i know who delivered there loved it too - nothing but good reviews (which is much more than i can say for some other places). i really love my choice of care givers/hospital (if you can't tell ) and would be more than happy to give you their info/answer any questions if i can.
i have a friends/acquaintance who delivered at nyu, but i haven't spoken to her since her delivery, so i don't know how she liked it.
also, if you look at park slope parents they have reviews for different hospitals and caregivers (drs and midwives) in the area as well as for other things once baby is born.
hth and good luck!

Re: Any Brooklyn girls on here?
My former GYN is at PARK SLOPE MIDWIVES...Jessica Goldman.
SHE IS A GODSEND. i moved to pa, but have her home # and when i first got my BFP and my new gyn's office didnt want to see me b/c it was too early, she advised me over the phone about stuff. She also advised me on things before when i was having trouble getting pregnant. She is the most awesome dr. i've ever met.
I dont have the address, but here is there # to park slope midwives:
718.499.3636
and my aunts gave birth at methodist, and had great experiences there.
GO SEE JESSICA...you will not be disappointed.
FM if you need more info.

Re: Any Brooklyn girls on here?
Thank you ladies! I got scared because I did look on the Park Slope Parents Website, and Methodist had only 4 reviews and they were all bad. I was a patient there 3 years ago - I broke my ankle. My doctors were great, but the nurses were really mean to me.
But, its good to hear that people had good experiences! Thanks for the recommendations!

my sister had her baby in methodist and it was great. i live in li now but when i lived in bklyn i used dr andrew Defazio. He delivers in methodist, they are 3 brothers in the practice. It was orginally the fathers practice but he retired and now they are there.
I know many women who go there... they are great!

Re: Any Brooklyn girls on here?
wow, methodist is starting to sound better.
Thank you ladies for the doctor recommendations!
I am so overwhelmed - and I can't believe I have to find a new doctor and hospital!
Any word on Lenox Hill Doctors or NYU? I feel like choosing the right hospital is the most important thing. I live very close to methodist. Either Lenox Hil or NYU would be at least a 30 minute drive, but I've heard such amazing things about both of them.
I heard at Methodist, visitors must leave at 10PM, including DH, but at the others, DH is allowed to stay overnight. Is that true?

Re: Any Brooklyn girls on here?
I am delivering at LICH (my doc is affiliated there)
My mom gave birth to 3 of my siblings at the Methodist without a complaint. my cousin JUSt delivered there and said the DAY nurses are great, the night nurses suck.
I don't have a dr. referral for you there (my doc is LIC womens center...or something to that effect lol) but I can get one if you like.
the Methodist is great for certain things and not so much for others. it's a very busy hospital...I've lived in PS my whole life and have been there MANY times
My mom delivered me at Caledonian Hospital, which since closed.
good luck.
we should have a Brooklyn gtg!

Thanks for the info! I experienced horrible nurses at methodist when I broke my ankle. One of them yelled at me "Why are you crying!?!" so I replied "Because I'm in excrutiating pain and have been sitting in my own urine for 30 minutes because nobody would come to remove the bedpan!" But, I guess that there can be a nasty nurse anywhere. The doctors were great and my surgery was a sucess.
What did you hear Methodist was and wasn't great for?
We should have BK gtg .... A group of pregnant women would fit right in here in the slope although I don't look pregnant yet, just fat!

.
What did you hear Methodist was and wasn't great for?
not really what I heard...just personal experience.
I HATE the ER at the Methodist. in their defense, they are constantly swamped, but I've NEVER had a good experience there (when it comes to timely care, bedside manner etc)
I once went completely apeshit on the entire staff b/c my baby sister (less than 2 at the time) fell down a flight of stairs in her walker (I was coming INTO my house at the time and basically caught her at the bottom ) she had a small hematoma on her head and I was having trouble keeping her awake..we were sitting there waiting for someone to look at her for over an HOUR. a 1-yr-old..with a FRIGGIN head injury who couldnt stay awake. I was 18 at the time-my mom was at work.... but I went off like a firecracker. (this was 15 years ago mind you)
there are a few other things, but I HATE the ER.
however, my baby brother has been treated at the Methodist for his asthma basically since he was 3 months old...spending weeks admitted at a time. they were so kind to him, and the care he received was awesome. they were good to my family up there as well. so I will say that for pediatrics, they are in my experience very good.
so basically, the hospital part is much better than the ER...but the ER leaves me with such a taste in my mouth

Re: Any Brooklyn girls on here?
i live in park slope and had my baby at st. lukes roosevelt which i loved. i am replying, though, because i went to methodist's free breastfeeding support group for many weeks which is staffed by their lactation consultant and their head NICU nurse. both ladies were amazingly kind and helpful, which speaks well for their maternity floor, although i did not personally deliver there. if you need help with peds, i like drs. gordon and glaser on 8th ave.

I lived in Carroll Gardens and had my DD at St. Lukes-Roosevelt. I had a great experience-no complaints other than having to share a room. The nurses and Drs were great.

I live in Bayrdige and it sounds like you go to Dr Herzog too. I wasnt happy about delivering in Staten Island either but Bayrdige is really close (I am on 95th) and I am really happy with my Dr. My MIL works at Methodist and wanted us to deliver there but I didnt want to changes doctors. I will ask her if she reccomends any though and FM you. Good luck !
I will say though that Richmond University where i will deliver is a very nice hospital and we had a great experiance the last time we were there. The Dr's and nurses were really nice and caring!!

Yeah it is much farther away so I understand. maybe try the actual drive and see how bad it really is. If you hop on the BQE and take it to the verezaano it may not e that bad. She has been a nurse there for over 20 years and she says they re-did the maternity ward and it came out very nice she works with cancer patients but seems to know all the good doctors who work there so I will still ask. I will also keep my ears open for you for anywhere else that you liked.

Re: Any Brooklyn girls on here?
I heard NYU is a great hospital. There is a practice called Downtown Women at 568 Broadway in Soho that is affiliated with NYU. I believe they offer evening appointments also. Not sure about the insurances. The docs there are great. They also have one midwife. I am not a patient there (I am actually one of their drug reps) but they have a great practice and I had a friend who went there and had a great experience. Dr. Suzanne Lajoie is one of the partners and is absolutely fabulous. Very down to earth, fun, spunky and knows her stuff. The other docs are great to. Hope that helps!
I am originally from Brooklyn but live in New Jersey now. I will be delivering with Sandy Woods (midwife) at Roosevelt Hospital in the city. People cross bridges and tunnels to have babies in the city all the time! Best of luck to you!
