Any DH's in Union (Local 7)?
Is it slow out there for your DH? DH is in Local 7 Marble/Tile Union. He has been out of work since December 09, before that it was on and off for the past year. We just had a baby girl in August and then this lay off. I am beside myself because we just found out that our insurance is going to run out mid April. I can put us on my insurance at work but it's over 500 a month which will destroy us being that my husband isn't working, I really am just looking to see if anyone is in the same boat and can calm me down as I am crying at my desk!

I'm so sorry to hear that Mia. Scott has been out of work since March of 09!! We got back from our honeymoon in Oct. then the 1st week of Nov we were told they were shutting his mill down. Anyway, I had to put him on my insurance. We couldn't afford Cobra.
We even had to put baby on hold and I'm going to be 36!!!
I don't understand why he will be losing his insurance. My brother is in Local 3 and has been out since Oct of 09 I'm going to ask him about that.

im so sorry Mia!!  but DH is to in a union...and you need a certain amount of hours to keep your insurance benefits  i think it is very crappy but thats how DH union is atleast...im assuming this is true for her DH also

Oh really! Please do find out for me, called his agent today but really it's the same story, I am surprised too that his insurance is out it's only been since december, you would think they would give him more time!

I think that's what it is too and he was off for quite a bit while I was pregnant so i guess it's caught up to him...STINKS!

my husband is in local 1281. painters claizers union and has been out of work since sept 09 we r in the same boat lost his ins. and now his unemployment benefits are running out .. have no clue what we r going to do .. i feel ur pain

Local 3 members (electricians) lose their medical insurance after 9 months unemployment.
I will lose mine May 31st.
I have worked 11 weeks since December 2008 (yes EIGHT).
My cousin is a non union electrician and he isn't working a full week either.
It IS bad out there.
