Any Ferber success stories out there?

*Sigh* I didn't want it to come to this but I am going to have to do Ferber's progressive waiting approach with DS. He's not sleeping AT ALL now and it's been over 2 months. We're totally beside ourselves.

We're going to NY for Christmas week so when we get home, I'm going to start this process. Anyone have a good success story to keep me motivated?

Re: Any Ferber success stories out there?

I did a modified version.

I didn't go in every few minutes to check on him because that only made DS worse.

Once I put him in the crib - that was that.

It was hard but every night it gets much much easier! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Any Ferber success stories out there?

We started CIO with my son a week ago. He's 5 1/2 months old and he was getting up 5 times a night for 2-3 months. We were exhausted and we couldn't handle anymore of that.

We couldn't use Ferbers method because it only made ds more mad. So CIO it was.

The 1st night, he cried for an hour and a half after his first waking. Then he fell asleep for 20 minutes. Then he woke up and cried for another hour. After that, he woke up at 2:30am for a feeding and went back down until 6:30am.

The 2nd night he only woke up once... 3am for a feeding. Chat Icon

The 3rd night he woke at 11pm and cried for 3 minutes (more of a whiney cry) and went back to sleep until 2am for a feeding.

So it's been somewhat successful. Last night however he cried for 40 minutes after he woke up at 11:30pm. From what i hear, there are going to be setbacks here or there sometimes. You just have to be consistent. Chat Icon

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Chat Icon

Same as pp's. I did straight out CIO, going in only made matters worse (with both DD's). Good luck!

Re: Any Ferber success stories out there?

I'll probably catch some flack, but we did a modified Ferber at 4.5 months.
I knew in my heart that DS was ready to sleep through the night. He had already been sleeping through, but my problem is I was putting to bed already asleep. Once he hit 4 months, he started waking up and getting upset - but wasn't hungry.

First night, I put him down awake with his lovie - he cried for 7 minutes, then passed out until the morning.

Second night - cried for 5 minutes and out

Third night - whimpered for a minute and we haven't looked back.

The first night S U C K S! It's the longest 10/20/90 minutes of your life.
But it's soooo worth it!!

Good luck!!

There will be setbacks - teething, sick, growth spurts, but like another poster said, consistency is key.

It may mean staying home a few weekends to get a handle on it. Not having babysitters, etc. Also, you will want to start on a Friday. The first night may be a long one.

Re: Any Ferber success stories out there?

we tried it last night my ds is 4.5 months, sorry it did not work the 5 first mn were not so bad, then towards the end of the 10 he started to choke himself, we could not do it, went in and he was shaking so hard...we picked him up. I don't know if it was us giving in or him just not ready, i am glad it worked for some, i don't think we will do it exactly as the book states though

alot of drs. suggest NOT doing it before 6 months. You may want to try again in two months! Chat Icon

Ferber was great for both my kids. I read the book, it helped a lot.

same with Alyssa....going in every few minutes made her more upset more. I just out her in and left and didnt go back in. She cried about 10 min first night...5 the next....2 the next...4th night no crying! Best thing I ever did. Shes 2.5 yrs old now and a GREAT sleeper! Good Luck!
