Any Jewish moms out there - or from Jewish families?
Are any of you not getting anything before the baby is born?
As I mentioned in another post, my dad and gma are getting my furniture, but don't want to have it until baby is born in the house - and there is a possibility my Jewish side of family won't go to the shower if there is one....
So how do you guys do it? How do you prepare for the baby? Or, how do you do it all after the baby is born?
any suggestions and advice would be very welcome!
TIA

Re: Any Jewish moms out there - or from Jewish families?
I am not a mom, but I'll tell you what my sister did. There was no furniture in my nephew's nursery - just painted walls. She had a layette picked out and either paid for and/or held at Denny's Childrenswear - can't remember which store - there are more locations now. anything she needed, bought or that people bought for her, she kept in my mother's house. She did not have a shower. They may have given her one at work. I dont think they did baby registries back then but I could be wrong. In any case, she hadn't been resgitered. The day she delivered, someone in my family went to Denny's, picked everything up and had it washed and took it to her at her apartment.
At the bris, my nephew got enough clothes to practically last him through his first year of life. I know he was wanting for nothing.
I dont remember what she did about the furniture, but I do remember my nephew sleeping in a bassinet for only a few days in her room until it arrived.
I pretty much plan on doing the same thing when I get pregnant, but I plan on having a registry once I find out what sex my child is.
Hope that helps!

I bought stuff toward the end and left it in the closest. We did paint the room and bring in the furniture only becaue it was hand me down furntiure and it had to be touched up.

Re: Any Jewish moms out there - or from Jewish families?
We bought our furniture from Behr's and it was ready a month before we had the baby. They held it for us until the baby was born, we got it 2 weeks after... It didn't matter since the baby was in the basinet at the time. We did paint and carpet his room.
As to a shower, I did not have one and didn't want one.
anything else I bought- clothes and such I kept at my mother's house until the baby was born.

Re: Any Jewish moms out there - or from Jewish families?
We didn't buy anything except furniture which Behr's held for us. I had it delivered the week I was due b/c just in case there was a problem I didn't want to wait until after DD was born. I think I bought diapers and wipes and a few necessities that week also. Then when we got home from the hospital I sent DH to get the rest of the stuff and we got so many gifts when we got home it was crazy. I did not have a shower. We painted her room after she was born b/c she was in our room for a few weeks anyway.
