Any mommies of early-September kids?
I got the "back to school" letter today and the teacher made a big deal out of birthdays..."We love to celebrate birthdays; Feel free to bring in anything you'd like to celebrate on your child's birthday..."
OK, well school starts on 9/9 and DD's birthday is on 9/7. I guess I could do it later in the month, or maybe not at all...she probably won't realize at 3...
I'm sure her birthday will fall on the first day of school several times. In that event, should I have the cupcakes in the trunk ready to go?
What about invitations when she gets older? (Right now her parties consist of all of MY friends/family and their kids.) Don't you have to get to know the kids in your class first? Or can one say, "Hey my name's Katherine; wanna come to my party this weekend?"
Am I overthinking this or is early-September the most awkward time for a school-aged kid's birthday? As a teacher, you think I would have planned better!

Don't have any advice, but I will soon be in the same situation as you. Our DC share the same birthday as DS was born on Sept 7 too!
He is only 1 this year, so I'll have to get back to you on all your questions in a few!!!

Re: Any mommies of early-September kids?
My birthday is 9/9 so I had a few first-day-of-school birthdays in the past.
My 4th grade one Mom showed up with orange cupcakes that were supposed to be pink, and it was very embarassing.
Anyway, at 3 I don't think she'd notice if you delayed it a few weeks. Once she is a little older I think I'd ask her what she wants. I wish my mom had done that.

Re: Any mommies of early-September kids?
Well Ava is 9/12 and her first day is 9/9 also.....so i will send in cupcakes on her b.day. The whole birthday party thing has been really bugging me lately.....we have never had a birthday party at a place yet because she really doesn't have many friends so we've always had small family parties which have been fine but this year I really wanted to have a party for her but I thought it was kind of weird to send home invitations the first week of school....and that is if we pushed the party back a bit to allow time for RSVP.....I don't want the other parents to get the invite and be like "Who's this".....but then on the other hand I'm sure Ava will be getting invitations to all these kids parties throughout the year and i feel like she is left out which breaks my heart beacuse she is constantly talking about her birthday. So I really don't know what to do either.

Re: Any mommies of early-September kids?
My older son is born in Sept and we have had a great time with it!! He takes his invites to school on the 4th day(this way all the first day paperwork is done). If you bring them in you have to invite everyone, which we do! We have had some really great kids parties and then he is a shoe in to be invited to everyone else's parties. He is never left out and the kids love to meet up with all their new/old friends!!!

Re: Any mommies of early-September kids?
You are me. DD's 3rd birthday is September 6th and school starts September 8th. With that in mind, I brought in cupcakes on her last day in camp and might possibly do that again in the first few days of school. For her birthday party, we invited last years class as we were invited to all those birthday parties and it was the right thing to do. In the future, my design is to have Carolyn celebrate at camp and at school- best of both worlds!!
