Any moms live in a cape style house?

What is your set up?

Do you use the basement?
Where is your bedroom (1st / 2nd floor)?
Where are the kids bedrooms (1st / 2nd floor)

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

I do I do! We finished the basement when we had ds. We are on the 1st floor with ds. When dc #2 gets here in March the two kiddies will share a room and then they will move upstairs when they are both ready. Oh and yes our most lived in space is the basement TV and play room

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

I grew up in a cape...my parents and I slept upstairs and my brother slept on the 1st floor.

The basement was our playroom.

Ours is cape-style. Our br is on the main floor and the nursery is upstairs along with another bedroom. We don't have the basement finished. We do have an office on the first floor that may serve as a playroom when DS gets older.

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

we do.

No basement - if we did it would be mostly used for storage though. the baby's room is on the first floor (as are we), my older dd's room is on the 2nd floor. The other bdrm on the 2nd floor is a playroom/office.

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

We do. The second floor is currently unfinished so we use it as a huge storage den (it's seriously out of control Chat Icon) so all the bedrooms are on the first floor. We just finished half of the basement and will use it as a playroom/den/office space. The other half of the basement remains utility.

We have a cape.

We are in the midst of renovating our cape.

We will have the bigger bedroom and the nursery will be the smaller bedroom. 3/4 of our basement is finished (we have livingroom, bedroom & kitchen since we have lived down here......it was his parents house). The LR in the basement will become the playroom. The bedroom will become my craft room/ computer room. The kitchen area will become storage.

The 2 bedrooms upstairs will be storage for now, then the kids bedrooms as we have more children & they get older.

So I see us using the whole house!

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

we do, but unfortunately it is a Levit and has NO basement! DH and I are on 1st floor, DS is right across from us. Upstairs we have a playroom and storage room. When #2 comes along the playroom will become DS' room and the storage room will also be a playroom. I am very worried about how I will handle DS being on the 2nd floor and being so far away. I am not even pregnant yet and this thought gives me anxiety!

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

We remodeled our cape in 2006. We have a huge master suite upstairs and 2 bedrooms on the main floor, one for each DD. We have a finished basement, and although DD has toys down there...it's DH's space Chat Icon so she doesn't play down there for long periods of time.

This is my exact house as well...basically turned a cape into a colonial...

Our basement is half finished, and we are currently finishing the other half into a playroom...

Our next project is to knock the wall down between the office and playroom and make it our living room (cutting a hole from the main entrance by the stairs to lead into it). We will turn our current living room into the dining room...

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

Grew up in a cape. My sister and I slept upstairs with a bathroom in the middle of our rooms.

My parents slept on the first floor. Also on main floor was office, living room, kitchen.

Basement was occupied by my grandparents (full 2 bedroom apartment) and laundry room.

When my sister moved out my parents moved upstairs and made their bedroom into a den.

Re: Any moms live in a cape style house?

Great question. Im in a cape & wonder how everyone else does it too. We finished the basement when DS was born. It is his playroom & where we spend most of the day. Both bedrooms are on the 1st floor. We will renovate the second floor to make it more of a livable bedroom for second child.

Basement is 3 rooms - one is the laundry room, one is the workshop/dog's bedroom and the other (the biggest one) is the playroom. We have a dormer with 2 bedrooms upstairs - one is ours and one is the boys. The 2 downstairs bedrooms were converted into a workout room and an office/library.

We have similar - there used to be 2 down, 2 up but we converted the MBR downstair to a formal DR that is now just a big playroom. The other smaller bedroom downstairs has been converted into a "media room" as DH calls it - I call it a plain old den Chat Icon .

We're upstairs with Ryan (the house is back dormered). We plan to add another bedroom upstairs over the garage or front dormer - soon. Or move, but with the market the way it is - we think we'll probably just stay here. Plus, DH has put his blood, sweat and tears into remodeling every square inch of this house.
