Any NYC teachers give birth in the Summer Months

I am not pregnant just wondering how maternity leave would work.

Someone in my school gave birth in July a couple of years ago and I could swear that they said she basically got no leave because she would already be on summer vacation.

yes this is true.Bottom line you get 6 week sor 8 weeks( csection) paid leave BUT you use your own days during that time. So for example you have 30 days in your bank.. theres your six weeks. If you dont have enough days you can borrow up to 20 to bring you to the 6 or 8 week mark. There are all other types of leave after that 12 week FMLA ( whcih starts and includes the 6 or 8 weeks you were entitled to anyway).Basically if you give bith in thr summer say July15th and school starts in 6weeks weeks yuoa re due to come back.
it sucks i know.. now i woudl assume if it was in teh summer you dont have to use your days sicne youa re off anyway. its a crazy system i swear.

I was due in late August, and he was born the day before school started. It worked out well for me. I came back right after Thanksgiving.

The summer breaks don't count towards your 12 weeks of FMLA. You can take 12 weeks of unpaid leave when the school year begins. However, depending on your district's policy, if you give birth during the summer, you may not be able to get any paid leave.

This is my districts policy... You can only use your sick days while youre considered "disabaled" which would be 6 or 8 weeks depending on how you deliver.
