Nah. Mine's easy enough to memorize. Drug me up, get it out, clean it up, give it to me. Simple 4 step process.
In all seriousness, I feel like no matter what you hope to happen, you have to mentally prepare yourself to not have any expectations because things can change very quickly. As much as I hope my 4 step plan works, I know it may not go that way so I never bothered with a formal birth plan. One less thing to stress about because it's out of my control anyway.

Why don't you talk to your doctor/midwife about it? It's your body, your baby...you should be able to tell them how you'd like it to all go down. Of course not everything can be planned but maybe a few things can be.
I plan to talk to my midwife about this at my next appointment next week.
Good luck!

I am a planner and have thought about it. So if it makes you feel better then do it. Discuss it with your nurses and doctors. But be ready for the changes in plans! LOL from what I read here, things change quickly.

I think it's good to write out what you want / don't want and discuss it with your doctor a few times throughout your pregnancy. But know going in, things change on a dime, and it may not work out like you want --- so you have to be prepared to make changes / go with the flow while in labor too. But it's good for you to do research on everything from drugs to inductions to breast feeding beforehand so that when you are in the throws of labor and in pain or nervous, you can remember your goals.
I hope that makes sense. So much of childbirth is unplanable but if you are educated, it will go a long way when you are in the thick of it and need to make decisions with your OB & the hospital staff, as opposed to going in blindly and not understanding what is happening.

thats pretty much my thinking too DH and I will talk about it beforehand and he'll know what i want as well (as far as who i do or don't want there, do i want to BF etc..) This is definitely one thing that's going to happen as i wants, no matter what i may 'plan' for!

Re: any of you ladies actually utilizing a "birth plan"?
When I had DS#1 i had no birth plan. I thought it was a waste of time. I had conversations with my Dr. and we both set each others expectations regarding labor. I've found that with pregnancy and children there are so many unexpected unknowns that you can't plan for everything. However if you do need to write something down then do it. It never hurts to be prepared...for me the conversations with my Dr. were enough.

Re: any of you ladies actually utilizing a "birth plan"?
My main purpose for one is not so much for the birth as it is after birth. I want the cord to stop pulsating before being cut. & I want baby placed on my bare chest after being cleaned up for "breast crawl"within first 30 mins of being born. No bottles unless baby isn't getting enough nutrients. Lots of skin to skin contact.
For birth I just prefer no augmentation drugs...but if that's necessary then ill adapt. I wanted to birth in a squatting position but my ob didn't feel the hospital could facilitate that.

Where are you giving birth? I'm just wondering bc I'd like to do it squatting too. I guess I'll have to talk to my midwife about it. Everything you're saying (the cord to stop pulsating, no bottles, skin to skin) are the reasons I'd want to have a birth plan. I just feel like those things need to be on paper. Also, I don't want a nurse calling out the sex of my baby. I'd like DH to do it.
I know some things can't be planned but I feel like some can.

Re: any of you ladies actually utilizing a "birth plan"?
i def. have a birthplan but not in the sense of writing it down and handing it out. Basically DH knows my/our wishes and I have been talking to my Dr. everytime I have an appt. so he is very well aware of what i want. of course it is subject to circumstantial changes.

Winthrop. My Ob was kinda like "ehhh well its not ideal for us to deliver the baby in that position" but he didn't outright say no so i'm going to see what my options are.

I had a birth plan similar to what you want when I gave birth. I showed it to my doctor a few weeks before delivering and he thought it was reasonable. I made it very simple. The nurse I had was accepting of my birth plan and it was good to have my wishes written down to keep things clear in my mind and the nurses and doctor's minds. It worked out well for me and if your doctor and nurse are reasonable, I think its a good to have a written plan if you have specific birth wishes. I would show it to the doctor in his office a few weeks before giving birth to make sure he is on board and show it to your attending nurse shortly after you arrive at the hospital. Good luck.
