Any other Italian (esp Sicilian) Mommies....
celebrate All Souls Day with a tray of goodies for the kids? My mother always carried on the tradition (my family is from Palermo) and I'm going to continue to do it for my DS. Since he's too young for sweets, I got all his organic fruits for the tray, and I added some lil toys.
Heres a little exert about the tradition:
A popular festival across the city of Palermo and the whole of Sicily, the Day of the Dead is the time of the year when it is said that the souls of dead relatives and loved ones return to Earth to visit those they've left behind. It is a time for prayers and remembrance and many people visit the family graves to lay flowers and candles for lost loved ones. It is said that the visiting spirits leave gifts of sweets and cakes for the children so the morning of the second day is usually an exciting time for children who bound downstairs to see what's been left for them overnight. The festival lasts for two days but only the first day, 1 November, is a national holiday.

Thats really cute about your Grandmother! Have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW!!!
My mother is super excited that I plan on carrying on the tradition. She just gave me the tray that my Grandmother used for them, then she used for us and now I get to use it for my DS.
