any recommendations for a pediatric neurologist?
I will be getting a recommendation from my OB's office this morning, but considering our LO might be dealing with a rare brain syndrome, I'd like to seek out the best of the best. So even though I'm in Queens, distance is not an issue for me.
Thanks.

New York Magazine just came out with their annual best doctor's list. They're always a great resource for the top specialists in the tri-state area.

Re: any recommendations for a pediatric neurologist?
I would go right to Cohens and since you are Queens, the drive wouldn't be bad at all.
We saw Dr. Mittler and we loved him.
Hope everything is okay!

Re: any recommendations for a pediatric neurologist?
If you are dealing with something rare go to Columbia Presbyterian or Cornell. When I was pregnant with my DD#1 there was a question as to whether she had a te fistula or esphogeal atresia. LIJ told me they only see them about once every few years and to go to Columbia presb. They see the condition once every month. They are one of the top hospitals in the country and since they are a teaching hospital they get people from all over the country and the world. I am so glad I delivered there. At least consider them for a second opinion if you don't want to go there. I delivered with their high risk group and had a surgeon already lined up but thankfully didn't need. They see so many more rare things than any hospital on the island. They will also coordinate everything for you they go above and beyond. They have a top childrens as well as babies hospital. Morgan Stanley Childrens Hopistal. You can also look in 2012 NY Magazine's Best Doctors in NY?

Both DS's ped and physical therapist recommended him, so I drove the 40+ miles each way to Cohen's and couldn't be happier.

Re: any recommendations for a pediatric neurologist?
My son was followed by Dr. Joseph Maytal from Schneiders/LIJ (Now COHEN). he was very good with my DS, and on that list of top docs....But I would search out someone who has dealt with the condition before if possible, no matter who you go with. experience and even expertise is best!
GOOD LUCK!

Thank you.....we met with Dr. Mittler this morning, he was very good but unfortunately there are not a lot of doctors who have a lot of experience with this issue. He doesn't seem to think what we have (dandy walker variant) will be a lifelong disability as of now, but it can take a turn for the worse further along in my pregnancy or it could stay the same....and of course there is no guarantee about anything until birth, you just don't know. The fact that we are dealing with more than 1 defect is what is troubling (the heart & brain)....so I called Columbia today to meet their neurologists, but they want me to see their prenatal unit first, so I'm waiting on a call back from them. I think the more opinions I hear on this, the better.

Re: any recommendations for a pediatric neurologist?
Dr. Andriola at Stony Brook is one of the best. If it was me, however, I would look into Columbia or NYU. Dr. Allan Rubenstein at NYU is excellent.

Re: any recommendations for a pediatric neurologist?
We are seeing a Dr. in Maytal's group at Cohen's.
I am not sure of their pediatric doctors, but I would look into Columbia, Mt. Sinai or NYU as well. I did a ton of research for my DH's brain tumor last year, and there are so many highly rated neurologists/neurosurgeons at these places. I am sure you can find a rec for a pediatric one.

I dealt with their prenatal unit I have nothing but good things to say about them - they coordinate everything for you so you just go and don't have to think. As I posted earlier - I like Columbia because as several doctors told me - they get people from all over so they have more experience in the rare conditions.
Good luck
