any speech therapists on here??

i work in an elementary school as an SLP, and this is my tenure year. i'm probably getting observed next week, so i'm just looking for any good ideas for a language lesson... 4th grade. i have a few ideas, but want to make an extra good showing this year, so i figured i would ask around!
thanks! Chat Icon

i work with speech-impaired kids and i collaborate a lot with the SLP. she does a great lesson with sea shells. she has a whole bag of shells, the kids get to touch them, look at them, etc. all the while, she is guiding them on language....descriptive words, etc. what other words can you use to describe: small or large or smooth. then at the end, they each have to choose a shell and they have to use descriptive language to describe the shell they chose. the other kids have to try to figure out which shell it is...
they liked it.

Also, following written directions... highlighting key words. "how do you know what to do?" what is the key word(s) that help you? you can do this using directions from their classwork, homework, or test prep.

oooh! i like the shell idea! i do something similar but with just a bunch of everyday objects ( spoon, cup, ruler, eraser, etc). i put them in a bag, and have one kid cover his eyes while the other kid pulls out an object. Then the kid who pulled out the object has to use descriptive language to get the other kid to guess which object he has. i've never done it for an observation, though... maybe i'll try it! thanks!
