Any suggestions for keeping the cat out of the crib?
So I knew as soon as we put up the crib, the cat would think it's hers. We put a sheet over it to deter her from jumping in, didn't work. MIL bought us a crib tent, and I'm not comfortable using it because it has mesh all around it that goes inside the crib and I found out that they have caused 10 deaths in the last 3-4 years, plus the crib needs to be on the lowest setting.
I'm at a loss here. We could lock her out of the bedroom, but I feel guilty because we live in a 1 br. and the A/C is on in our room at night, but I don't want her jumping in with the baby in the middle of the night.
I'm out of ideas. Is the only solution to just lock her out of the room? Is there a way to discourage her from jumping in? Any BTDT suggestions?
Thanks!

put aluminum foil around the perimeter of the crib.
On the floor around it or on the actual edge of the crib? She's pretty agile and can jump from the floor into the crib no problem.

I heard about this too, I don't have my crib yet but am planning on giving it a try so my cat won't climb in either.

on the floor.... like a moat. a moat of aluminum foil. do it now before the baby arrives to get her dissuaded from it.

Re: Any suggestions for keeping the cat out of the crib?
we put tinfoil IN the crib - scared the crap out of him when he jumped in and that was the end of that.
Turns out though that once DS had arrived my cat HATED him and couldnt be far enough away from him so he just stayed out of his room altogether.

Re: Any suggestions for keeping the cat out of the crib?
We bought a Scatmat (Pet safe). My DH put it on a "gentle" setting. Our cat attempted to go into the nursery and she got a light zap from the mat. She never tried to go into the room again. We thought that she'd get smart and jump over it...wasn't the case at all!!

Both suggestions on this thread, alluminum foil in the crib and the scat mat are great ideas.
Oddly I have 4 cats and never found them IN the crib, but they definitley like being under it. Plus we keep his door closed at night.

Thanks for your suggestions! I'm going to put aluminum foil down and in the crib and see how that works, and then check out the scat mat if need be. Great ideas!

I would just keep my son's room closed and use the monitor when he was sleeping.

Re: Any suggestions for keeping the cat out of the crib?
As much as we hated doing it - we kept a spray bottle of water near it and would spray him everytime he went in it.
He eventually figured out not to go in there.
However, like another poster said - our cat wants nothing to do with DS, so he avoids him and his areas like the plague. DS would love to play with our little furbaby, but the most he'll give DS is a quick rub of his head as he's going to hide.

We keep the door shut, and baby monitor on, at all times. Our cat was NOT happy about this, but he's a big boy and I didn't want him in the crib with DD.

Re: Any suggestions for keeping the cat out of the crib?
I'm so late on posting to this thread but I just saw theXpost onthe pet page. Iworried too when I was pg with my first and this is what I did. I got a piece of cardboard the size of the crib mattress and took wide tape you can use masking tape, duct tape, any kind) put pieces all over the cardboard with the sticky side facing up (roll it so you can adhere it to the cardboard too). Cats hate anything sticky on their paws so they will automatically associate the inside of the crib with this. You can also doit to keep cats from scratching furniture but it worked great with the jumping in the crib problem.
