Any tips on how to get your DC to SSTN?
my son is almost 7 months old and he still does not STTN. this is making me nuts, i get no sleep! he doenst really want anything when he wakes up. i try to give him a bottle and he either refuses or drinks 1oz, so he doesnt want that. he sometimes takes his pacifier but doesnt really want that either. i try not to pick him up; i just tap his hiney and rub his head and that sometimes works. tried to let him CIO and it made me crazy. he got so upset that he was crying so hard and choking and gagging.
any tips for a sleep deprived new mom?

to be honest, I would try cio again. when you hear him start to cry, just watch him on the monitor but don't go in there & hopefully eventually he'll go back to sleep. I know that all babies are different but I found that when I used to go into my DS room, it would make him cry more.

CIO and a sound machine. The one with the projector is great. Plays music and shows images on the ceiling. Best thing we got for Mason when he was around 8 months. Good luck

Re: Any tips on how to get your DC to SSTN?
I can only tell you what I did (dont know if that's what did it or I was just lucky). We never rocked DS to sleep. He always went into the crib sleepy or awake. The minute we put him in we turned the music machine on (we used the one that came with his tummy time playmat because it would play for a long time and we also used the fisher price aquarium). DS began to associate the music with bedtime and would soon fall asleep. He also never took a pacifier so we never had to deal with going in if it fell out. As DS got older he we used Scout (10 minutes of bedtime music). He learned how to press the buttons himself and if he woke up in the middle of the night he would press one of his music toys and put himself back to sleep. At 10 months old, we had to do CIO but only to get him to sleep. DS has never really been a wake up in the middle of the night screamer. The only time he does is if there is something wrong (teething pain, not feeling well, etc.).

Def CIO.. I KNOW how hard it is.. and if he is making himself gag or choke and does in fact make himself sick (my son was notorious for this), simply go into the room, make no eye contact, change him and the crib and put him back in.. he needs to understand that mommy is not playing around..

Re: Any tips on how to get your DC to SSTN?
CIO only worked for initial bedtime to get him to go to sleep on his own.
We tried CIO for middle of the wakings & it never really worked for us here.
Once DS figured out how to get his OWN binky....that helped the middle of the night wakeups reduce from 3-5 times to 1or 2 times. That was around 9 months old.
All of a sudden around 11 1/2 months he just started exhausting himself I guess because he learned to walk....that's when he finally STTN.
