Any tried and true ways to combat cradle cap?
DD has a bad case and I'm not helping it....I totally pick at her scalp all day long (I'm like a monkey...I can't help it). She doesn't have a Ped appt until the end of the month. Is there anything I can do to try and help it heal?

I used baby oil. Glob it on and comb it through. I may take a few times to get it all out, but it took care of my DD's and it didn't come back. Good luck!

Re: Any tried and true ways to combat cradle cap?
One pediatrician suggested rubbing her scalp with baby oil over the course of a couple of hours leading to her bath--then scrubbing the hell out of it in the bath which freaks me out because of the "soft spot" Another one of our doctors suggested T-Gel by Neutrogena, which I have not tried. Abby still has it a bit at 14 weeks. Truthfully, I'm not that aggressive about it especially since it's purely a cosmetic issue.

How long do you keep it on there before washing it out?

Re: Any tried and true ways to combat cradle cap?
when i would give a bath i would rub baby oil into his scalp and let it sit there for a few minutes. then with a very fine tooth baby comb, comb over the scalp and a lot of it will come off. it might take a few times before it's all gone though. at first i was using a baby brush and it didn't help at all, but once i switched to the comb i was able to gently scrape it all away

Re: Any tried and true ways to combat cradle cap?
I think I just rubbed it on and combed it through a few times. I did it right before her bath and then just washed it out. It really did work.

I used baby oil GEL, it worked great... I would put some on, comb it in and leave it on most of the day until bath time...

Re: Any tried and true ways to combat cradle cap?
for my dd i used baby oil and combed it all out with a fine tooth comb. worked like a charm. my ds had a worse case of cradle cap and i used (as per his ped) neutrogena therapeutic T/Gel shampoo. it cleared him up real quick.

We tried everything and nothing worked. Then I got Gentle Naturals Cradle Cap solution and it worked after using it twice. You can get it at Target or CVS.

Olive Oil.... I put a little on the scalp and then combed it out. Then gave them a bath and washed it out with shampoo.

Re: Any tried and true ways to combat cradle cap?
Nuetrogena T Gel shampoo - I tried all those other things with my first son and nothing worked or got worse (olive oil and baby oil - bad news!). My dr recommended this and it worked wonders!!! 2-3 times a week - rub in with a soft tooth brush and rinse...it cleared up fast!

That is what we used and it worked well.
I mentioned it to the ped. dermatologist, he urged me not to pick at it

I washed with selsen blue and then blotted mineral oil on it after the bath. I did this for a few days and it was gone.

The baby oil gel worked like a miracle cure for us. That and a fine toothed comb did the trick and it never came back.
