any Xmas host out there that didnt really enjoy hosting?

This year I had Xmas day at my house- it was so chaotic. Im Italian so I like to serve massive amounts of food in courses ( any one Italian can surely relate) Anyhow I felt like I didnt get to enjoy my self one bit- I was literally in the kitchen the entire night. I hardly got to see my son open his giftsChat Icon We had so mnay people over with my family and Dh family there were some gifts that werent even opened. Next year Im not hosting, as much as I love cooking it would have been nice to enjoy my company and my son... Oh well...

i didn't host, but i know it's a lot of work. with me being italian too, we do cook and serve way too much food. I was telling this to my mom. I told her next year, let's cut it way down this way we could enjoy all the delicious foods and our family too. She agreed. Even when you prepare ahead of time, it's still a lot of work !

I hosted, and it was exhausting. I even pre-made almost everything Saturday and Sunday, so it was just heating most of the stuff up...and I still was in the kitchen all day.

i am right there with you, I hosted the big italian christmas eve at my house also, and it was exausting,
I felt like I neglected my babies all week preparing the dinner, then that night between serving and doing the dishes-i didnt get a chance to even taste my food or have a minute of enjoyment with my kids.
I spent the night being annoyed at my MIL for not getting up to help!
NOT what Christmas is supposed to be about!

I hosted, despite telling DH repeatedly that I was fine with having people over but I didn't want to "host" Christmas - with the big dinner, etc. We had a small group, but I was really miserable. It was a lot of work and I felt like DH was being pulled in a bunch of different directions by certain needy family members all day. It was really disappointing to me (after spending so much time picking out just the right gifts for him) that I felt like he couldn't be "in the moment" enough to enjoy opening them since someone was always asking him to do something every 2 seconds. Never again!

I agree, I had a traditional Italian Christmas Eve, and you can't cook fish in advance, so I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. Thankfully I prepped as much as I could and got a lot of help.

DH swore he would help me, but was pretty nonexistant....

I wish I could have spent more time relaxing, and by the time I was ready to, everyone left!

Yeah! I was really just heating everything up but people were up my azz all day! I spent the entire night in the kitchen!

This was my 2nd year & less people but more irritating. We will be sitting next year out!
