Anybody have Black Mulch delivered to their home?
What did you pay a yard?
I just got a quote of $25 a yard and I need a minimum of 18. I thought that was pretty steep for mulch. Is that average???

LOL...Don't need to tell me! I'm one of the fools spreading it!
Darn...$25 is a bit much. Looks like I'll be heading to the dump with DH for "some" mulch.

Re: Anybody have Black Mulch delivered to their home?
i don't know about the price but i would just pick it up myself. it has to be cheaper. i bought bags of it from home depot and lowes and they always go for about $3.19 or so. i would drive the truck there or borrow someone's. i took my truck and went in with one of those flat carts. it took me 3 trips in and out of the store to fill up my truck. i had mulch bags in the passenger seats...and everywhere else I could jam it in. i got about 40 bags of it into the truck and i could see see out the back window.
Plus the bags are very light even though they are pretty big. they must weight less than 5 lbs per bag. bag size is probably 4 feet by 2 feet and 8 inches wide.

Those bags probably come out to more than $25 a yard.
We'll just do what we've done in the past, which is go to the Smithtown dump where it's free. We just bring our trailer and they dump the mulch right in it with a frontloader.
I just like the looks of the black mulch better, but I had no idea it cost that much.

Re: Anybody have Black Mulch delivered to their home?
You can get it at the Smithtown dump which is on Townline Road. But I'm not sure if you have to be a town resident.

It's on Old Northport Rd. in Kings Park.
We're Huntington residents, but we use the dump (for drop off and mulch) because it's shared by both towns. I don't believe a Brookhaven or Islip resident can use the facility.

Re: Anybody have Black Mulch delivered to their home?
Looks like I was able to convince my DH to get 10 yds or so of black mulch for my backyard plantings and we're going to just use the dump (aka free) mulch for the front yard since we're doing construction and it's mainly to put over the dirt to prevent mud.

This is what the free mulch looks like:
It's just not dyed black or red.
They offer it in bags or you can have it dumped into a flatbed/trailer. I have seen signs where they run out of bagged mulch quickly though.

Re: Anybody have Black Mulch delivered to their home?
They offer pre-bagged mulch (the size you would get at Home Depot), but only allow 10 per car. We were at the dump twice yesterday and the bags go quickly, so it's best to get there early if you interested in the pre-bagged. (They had dozens of bags in the AM, but when we went back at 2PM, they were out of them and trying to replenish the bags.)
And yes, you can bring your own bags, buckets, etc. and fill them. A lot of folks do that (just in case they don't have any of the pe-bagged mulch available.) Just be sure to bring a shovel!!
Also, keep in mind the dump closes between 11:45 and 1pm (lunch )
They also offer wood chips too (in case anybody is interested.)

Nope, it's still Old Northport (Meadow turns into Old Npt.) Old Northport ends at Townline a little over a mile west of Indian Head. Townline turns into Bread & Cheese Hollow Rd at Pulaski.
