Anybody who tried the Purees do sweet potato yet? help
I'm talking about the Jessica Seinfeld purees but I guess anybody that has made their own baby food would know too. I'm trying to puree a sweet potato and it just won't go smooth. It's very chunky still. Is this normal? Do I just have a crappy food processor? Should I add liquid? What do I do? Just keep going? It doesn't seem to want to break down any further.

When I made Ava's baby food, I'd add some applesauce or apple juice. HTH!

you definitely have to add a liquid to smooth it out. That is with any of the veggies. I would personally have done OJ but Rachels I dea of apple juice works as well. With regular potatoes I do milk.

Re: Anybody who tried the Purees do sweet potato yet? help
it's in the Deceptively Delicious cookbook, I haven't been able to find it anywhere online so I'll try to post it later My poor DH is afraid to eat anything I make now cause he just KNOWS that I'm hiding some kind of vegetable in it now thanks to that book

Thanks everybody! Those muffins sound yummy. Ellie's still too young for peanut butter but once she can have it I will try them.

Re: Anybody who tried the Purees do sweet potato yet? help
Here's a suggestion...
Try using Earth's Best Baby food or any other organic baby food. I bought a few jars of the sweet potatoes b/c I knew it would be a PITA to steam them, then puree them. I tried to get everything I could in Organic Baby food. Cauiflower and spinach I had to do myself. HTH
ETA: As long as the ist of ingredients are: Organic Sweet potatoes and water, you should be fine.

I've made their baby food but haven't tried the recipes yet.
I bake the sweet potatoes and add water, puree in a blender.

If you steam the potatoes, take the water from below the steamer in the pot to add to the mixture - you can also add a little bottled water if that doesn't get it to the consistency you want.
