Re: anyfeedback on middle country school district?
We moved out of MC last year. My son went to New Lane (HUGE elementary school). My child received special education services since he was 3, up until we left (3rd grade), so my view it is obviously probably different than someone with a typical child. The school itself he attended..not really a fan. I heard the Principal left so maybe it's better now.
Friends of mine in the district don't have any complaints about their schools (all elem.).
They do however have AWESOME libraries (2) with a TON of programs for all ages. Our new library is awful compared to MCPL.

I agree. I wouldn't choose a home for that school district.

I live in Selden and my 6 year old goes to New Lane. There are a few things I wish that were different, but in all, so far so good. Hannah loves going and is thriving, so that's what's most important.

OUCH!!!
My DS started kindergarten and we couldn't be happier. His teacher is wonderful and he is learning so much. I am very happy with the kindergarten center. My neighbor's (most of whom have older children) have all raved about their children's education.

Re: anyfeedback on middle country school district?
my cousin (that I speak to daily) has two children in MC, they are doing great & she has been very happy. I also know a prinicple in one of the schools & he thinks the district provides great services. Also the Libraries are AWESOME, which is so important to me.

I don't think either comment was that negative. I don't know anyone who would specifically look only at Middle Country because of the quality or ranking of the school system, but that doesn't mean that students can't succeed there.

Re: anyfeedback on middle country school district?
I taught in that district for a short amount of time (a year). It definitely has its pros and cons. IMHO the cons outweigh the pros. I am now in a different district (much smaller) and i see what this district offers vs MC and because of this, MC wouldnt be my first choice where i would send my kids. However, the kindergarten centers are awsm!!! I did not like New Lane's open classroom system at all! For more info, fm me

I did not like that at all either, especially as a parent of a child who has ADHD and is very easily distracted. I also don't like that the children eat lunch at their desk. They don't have a cafeteria. Strange in a school that large.

I cant even imagine how difficult it is for a child with ADHD especially that all children are distracted. If another class was having snack and we werent quite there yet, it was hell. All of my kids would pay attention to the kids eating and vice versa. Having them eat lunch at their desks was so sad. Kids need to be able to interact with their peers from other classes.

Re: anyfeedback on middle country school district?
I think it is very middle of the Rd and it really depends what part of the district you are in. Personally I am staying away from Stagecoach and New Lane elementary because I am not a fan of the open classrooms. I have heard good things about Jericho Elementary so DH and are looking in LK Grove. Again like another poster said SD is a lot what you make of it.

I'm pretty sure Stagecoach doesn't have open classrooms.

I think you may be right. We are considering a house in Lk Grove Eugene Auer is the elementary school.

I'm thinking you might possibly be confused, only because my son had cub scouts there so I have been in there a lot. I also have friends that go there and that was the appeal moving from New Lane to Stagecoach..walls, doors and a place to eat lunch other than the desk. The school is very small and there were doors and walls in each classroom each time I have been.

Re: anyfeedback on middle country school district?
I tried to look on the middle country website to see any schools list that they do cooperative learning I think it is called but I did not see anything.
I think Stagecoach may have classrooms. I remember someone telling me that one school did have normal classroom set up.

Wow, how do they expect ANY kid to pay attention with a setup like that?

FYI to everyone considering MC...
This is only ONE elementary school out of 11 elementary schools in the district.
The teachers have all adjusted to the layout and it hasn't impacted any of the student's learning. It isn't the BEST situation, but by far, it isn't the worst and I see absolutely NO difference between the students coming out of New Lane versus other elementary schools.
If anyone has any specific questions about the district, I can answer almost any of them. FM me.
