Anyone a Kindergarten Math Common Core expert??
Are we still teaching money or clocks?
I don't see it under measurement, but money can be used as more or less?
Time-I see the calendar, morning and night, but what about telling time?
Thanks

Re: Anyone a Kindergarten Math Common Core expert??
Telling time to the half-hour and hour is 1st grade now. Money is in the 2nd grade standards, but it is doing problems with money, so I will still be teaching identifying coins in 1st grade. In Everyday Math, 1st grade does time to the hour, half and quarter and introduces money. CCLS says that word problems with money are a 2nd grade skill, so I think that they are at least being introduced to it before-hand. I don't see the problem with using it with more and less eventually, but I think more concrete more and less examples are better for K students. They want to K to be mostly number sense, etc. My guys get the size of the coin confused with the value, so I had to teach more and less with like items first, then move to money.

I teach first grade and now we only teach time to the hour and half hour. We also do not teach money now, but I still include it in my morning routines (identify coins and values and we count coins to,add to the number of days in school- but I don't stress them having to know how to do this we just do as a class)
Last year we switched from EDM to math connects. Math connects still included coins. We now have my math this yr which is suppose to be more aligned to CSS.

What happens with special Ed kids who are take state tests, but don't seem to retain these concepts and are now doing 4th grade common core?

They are still responsible for the 4th grade content if they are standardized. I have a few standardized kids, and I am going to have to make one of them alternate this year because there is no way he will even be able to sit for the test, let alone pass it, with every accommodation under the sun.
The ELA is easy to differentiate, because a lot of the skills can be done on varying levels of sophistication. The math is tricky because the content is pretty specific. We split our kids into two groups, and any kid that is more than 2 grades below grade-level does EQUALS (and is typically alternate assessment) and the kids who are within two years do Everyday Math.
I would make sure to give them lots of testing mods. when you do their IEP.
