Anyone at work yet? Are the roads really as bad as the news reporters claim?

They're saying the roads are coated with ice, people are spinning out everywhere....

I am debating making the commute to the 1 class I have today....its not cancelled, so I have to decide soon! (its normally a 45 minute commute at this timeof the morning when there's NO precip, so it'll probably take me 1 hr+.)

I'm at work, and yes the roads in the 3 Village/Port Jeff area are horrible, and it's raining ice out there. 347 was a crawl - no more than 30 MPH and there is heavy traffic, too!

Be careful! I had DH drive me to the office.

I am at work & yes the roads are as bad as they say especially on the south shore. I didn't go over 30mph the entire commute. Roads are coated with ice & it is sleeting now. If you don't need to go to class, I would not trek out!

It took me 25 min for a normally 5-10 min drive. I'm in Suffolk and saw 3 accidents on the service road from Exit 61 to Exit 58.

My mom just called, she said some roads are worse than others, but she did see a few people spin out & go off the road.

Yeah, the roads are bad. It's all ice, and this weather is supposed to continue. I don't think it's supposed to warm up at all, so driving all day with be rough.

Re: Anyone at work yet? Are the roads really as bad as the news reporters claim?

From Long Beach to Melville took an hour and a half (usually 35-40 minutes).

It's the side roads that are the worst I think. The more traffic on the roads, the less ice/snow but the longer it takes because of the traffic!

You can't win. It's going to take a long time so it's better that you take your time and get there safely. I didn't see any spinouts or accidents but I heard on the radio that there are 28 accidents on the roads right now.

Be careful everyone!Chat Icon

The Grand Central was at a standstill. I took the side roads and it took me over an hour to get here. They are horrible.

Don't go if you don't have to.

I don't live far from you. DH tried to drive to the train station this morning, gave up and came back to work from home.

It's just a sheet of ice on the roads where we live.Chat Icon

Definitely not worth it. I took side streets since the highways are a mess. You can only go 20-30mph. Do yourself a favor and stay safe at home. Chat Icon

In NJ the roads are pretty bad (northern NJ)- my step mom couldn't get to us to babysit so DH had to stay home with DD- when he called in to work- there wasn't anyone there to pick up!

My 20 min commute took over an hour. Funny thing is our other 5 law offices--2 were closed and 3 had delayed openings. I think someone messed up on our end..lol
80% of the office still isnt here. WE got 6 attendance emails saying people were late or not coming in. And of course most of the attorneys are working from home!!
