Anyone been exposed to giardia (parasite) from a dog? WWYD
OUr friends just got a puppy and he has giardia. The vet said it can be passed to humans, and just to be cautious and clean up after him. DH wants to go visit them tonight. Would you go or not take the risk? I am thinking its not a big deal.

We got a puppy in Dec (before I got prego)... they told us it can be transferred to humans if you arent CLEAN... so unless you are gonna play with the poop and not wash your hands, you'll be fine!

just make sure you wash your hands REALLY good!!! and carry hand gel sanitizer

You will be fine! It is very hard for humans to get Giardia from a dog. Giardia can be passed from dogs to humans through contaminated dog waste.
"Giardia is a common cause of diarrhea in people, but dog Giardia is not generally considered to spread from animals to humans."
Our Golden Retriever had giardia the entire first yr ( we could not get rid of it, it kept coming back). We were fine being around her.

you will be fine, my puppy had that. You just make sure that you wash your hands thouroughly after playing with the puppy.

the only way you can get the giardia is if you were to (ew) like, eat the poopie....or say, you cleaned it up but didn't wash your hands and so on. Very unlikely. My dog had giardia as a pup before i got preggos. not to worry!
i also always use wet wipes on my dog's hiney. we keep him so clean....giardia parasite can swim and it's easy for them to catch.
