I just got the invitation. You bring all your unwanted gold, silver, platinum and the guys are at the party to weigh it and pay you for it. Think you'd get a good price for it this way?

I'm going to one on Saturday.

I don't have much to sell. Just a promise ring from an old bf.. which I doubt I'll get much for.

I didn't think they took silver though. Chat Icon

its great since its a quick and painless, but you DON'T get what you should get. remember the person hosting the party has to get something in return, and they still need to make $$.

If your looking for a quick and painless sell, and a night out with friends, there great!Chat Icon

If your looking for top dollar, skip the party

I went to one! I got rid of an old gold necklace, a pair of earrings and a bracelet and made $295!! Not bad!

I heard about these from a vendor a week or so ago and thought it was a great idea. First party where you go and get money and not spend it! Chat Icon

For anyone wanting to do one I know Good Old Gold in Massapequa does these.

Yes, they do but I would personally not go to a party unless I had a quote from someone else prior to it.

I just sold some old gold earings and got a 10% difference on the quote. You want to get the most for it.

Re: Anyone been to a "sell your gold" party?

My MIL went to one and got $500. A few weeks later she and her best friend hosted one and got $900 each based on the sales of other people. She followed the price of gold/ounce for that day and made sure that what she got was close to the going rate.

ETA: My mom sold some stuff at Good Old Gold in massapequa and got $1800.

I went to one a few weeks ago and they strictly took gold only. Check and make sure the company you are thinking about takes all three metals. Have a "profitable" party!

My friend actually told me today that she's having one on Friday. I really don't have any old gold that I want to part with but I'll just go to hang out. It'll be nice to go to a party like this where I'm not expected to buy anything!Chat Icon

I've been to one and made some $$ for it. I'm considering having one just for other friends and family.

You do get what the going rate is that day. Yes, the hostess gets something like $20 for every $200 sold, so it's not that much.

Re: Anyone been to a "sell your gold" party?

I actually just started doing these. It's a great way to get your friends together and not ask them to buy something as with other at home parties. It has been a success and the people that sell their gold leave there very happy!

so they dont take a percentage away to give to the host?

They shouldn't.

Not that I'm aware of. It was made clear to me that I would get whatever the going rate was that day for gold. They also made it known that the hostess receives $20 for every $200 a person sells. So if 1 person sold $80 and another $120, they combined that to make $$200 and the hostess got another $20.
