Anyone considered "high risk"?
What is the difference. I had a late miscarriage and now with this baby, my doc recommended seeing a high risk doctor as well as him. Any ideas?

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
i'm not high risk, but knowing myself, i'd feel more comfortable going to 2 doctors, if only to reassure myself that if one missed something the other would pick up on it.
good luck and happy and healthy 9 months!!

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
I am at a 'higher' risk for having what happened to my son happen to this baby, but not considered high risk.
I wonder how they determine high risk.

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
I'm High Risk. I am kind of stumped why you would have to see a HR dr. for a previous miscarriage. Unless there was medical complications and age factors that played in the MS. I lost a baby last year as well, but not considered HR b/c of that. Since it's so common, however I am due to medical pregnancy issues. I have Hyperesmisis Gravadarum & Polydramoisis (sp). Anyway, if they said see a HR I would, however make sure you are covered with your insurance company. I have to ppay a copay everytime I go since it's a specialist and I used to go biweekly now it's every week. So it adds up. The great things about seeing a HR doctor is that you get biophysiclas done on the baby each time you go, so it gets to be exciting.
they may only want to see you monthly or biweekly... Goodluck!

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
i'm a high risk also....for several medical reasons....a number of different thrombophilias as well as being a juvenile diabetic. some people hate being high risk bc you need to go to more doctors, etc...i personally love it bc i get to see my little all the time. i go every week now, might go to two times a week for the last few weeks. it can be expensive though since most high risk doctors don't take insurance. just make sure you can work something out first! i pay a copayment every time i go and i had to cover part of my deducible also. kind of a drag, but worth it to know everything is ok!!! good luck to you....FM if you need any info!

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
I was high risk in the beginning because I had 1 occassion of spotting which formed a preisac hematoma. Once it cleared and I was in the 2nd tri I went back to non-risk.

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
My sister was high risk with my first nephew because she experienced two miscarriages as well as an etopic. But once she got out of the second trimester she was cleared and no longer "high risk".
She has a second son now and pg with the 3rd. Hasn't been high risk since the first.
Like others said make sure the doc is covered by your policy and copays can become a little cumbersome.
Good luck!

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
Thanks ladies. I am not sure if it is just for my first trimester, or what, but I will check into whether they are covered. I guess it can not hurt, but it just sounds so nervewracking! I go next tuesday, so i'll keep you updated. I will be 12 weeks, so they are also doing the ultrasound!

Re: Anyone considered "high risk"?
Im considered high risk. I have high BP and my umbilical cord is actually missing an artery which can causes complications. I went to a high risk DR. for a second opinion and sonogram. She recommended that I stick with my regular DR. and that I could come see her once a month...but I didn't feel that was necessary. I was nice to hear that her plan of care for me was inline with what my Dr. said. I have been at my Dr. every 2 weeks since I found out I was pregnant and I will probably start going once a week at 32 weeks.
