Anyone convert from oil to gas?
We need a new boiler/water heater etc. and figure while we are spending the money we should look into converting from oil to gas. I feel it will be a lot cleaner. Every time we get an oil fill up our house smells so bad.
Do you think it is worth it? Approximately how much did it run you and would you recommend the company you used? Are you happy you made the switch. thanks!!

Are there gas lines in your neighborhood? Do you have gas coming in already for a stove or dryer?

Re: Anyone convert from oil to gas?
we did 5 years ago and it was the best home improvement we did on the house! We got so much kick back everytime our burner went on, the house smelled like oil. Our burner was on its last legs and we were going through fuel like water.
Our bills have been very reasonable considering how much oil has shot up these past few years.

Re: Anyone convert from oil to gas?
I am in the process of doing this now. I am waiting for a quote from the last Plumber that came, but the #'s I got so far are running from $5400-$7500.
I am sick of Oil, worrying about fill up's, my tank is outside so that is another reason I want to abandoned.
I have a line outside the house, so that is already set up.
Since you have the gas line in your house, I think it should be a lot easier process. You can call a few Plumbers for Estimates and go from there.

This process should cost you a lot less since you already have a gas line for your house. Get some estimates! We are glad we converted over to gas. The highest bill we had over this past winter was $250. We use gas for our stove, heat & dry. GL!

Re: Anyone convert from oil to gas?
We are converting in a few weeks. It's about $7k. If we got a new burner etc, it would have been $6k.

Re: Anyone convert from oil to gas?
We did it a few years ago and it's great. I'd have to ask my Dh about the exact price but we also got a deal from Keyspan. I love that we got rid of the massive oil tank in the basement too and have more storage space and never have to get oil deliveries. We were able to get a gas stove when we redid our kitchen later on too - I'm not an electric stove person.
