Re: Anyone convert their garage into another room?

They are starting construction on my kitchen on Monday and while I had my contractor here I inquired about having my garage converted into a room (it's right off of my kitchen). He quoted me a rough estimate of $10-12k. It would be a 10x14 room, cutting a five foot entry way from my kitchen (rather than have the standard door that I have there now) and a window on the outside wall. That included all electrical (no plumbing because my brother in law is a plumber).
Hope that helps

Re: Anyone convert their garage into another room?

My sister and BIL are doing this very soon.

they have a 2 car garage which they are making into a bedroom, adding a bathroom and an office area. They floor is being raised up (they have 2 steps down into the garage now) the garage door are going to be gone and windows will be put in its place. The electric box will be moved and a large walk in closet will be added.

the whole thing is going to cost them $35K

we made the garage in our old townhouse into a room. we did it ourselves & it was small so it didn't cost much. we left the garage door & a few feet of storage space there & added the wall from that spot on. we had forced hot air heat that made that part easy. we added carpet right over the cement floor.
