Did anyone convert your garage into a room?
about how much did it cost and was it a pain?

My uncle did. He did alot of the work himself, so I am not sure what it cost him. But I will see him this weekend, if you would like me to ask.

We are thinking about it- I don't have specific numbers but I can't see it being too huge an expense (as opposed to adding a whole new room.) I think the most costly things will be the insulation and replacing the door with a window and we'd probably want a couple more outlets in there. Otherwise, we will probably do the drywall, etc. ourselves.

Eventually we're going to covert half of our garage into a dining room. Our house didn't come with a dining room and the back of our garage is right off our kitchen. My DH plans to do most of the work himself.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of additional heat, electricity and increase in taxes to your estimated cost.

I dont even thnk you need to replace the garage door.. just build a sheet rock wall in front of it.. so it still looks like a garage from the front.

my mom converted you can still count the room as a garage if you leave 18" from the garage door to the wall in the room - it cost about 900 to convert and it was worth it she needed the extra room
