Anyone diagnosed with Coccydynia (pain below tailbone)?
Ugh.... for the second time in 5 months I'm having pain below my tailbone.. I'm going to an orthopaedist today. He suspects it's coccydynia. I can't sit, can barely walk...symptoms are brought on by absolutely nothing... no injury or fall. Anyone have this problem?

Re: Anyone diagnosed with Coccydynia (pain below tailbone)?
I have had this problem!!! Years ago, I went to New Orleans, and it was a long plane ride home. It started after that, same here, no fall, no injury, other than sitting on the plane for a long time on a very uncushy seat.
I had been for all kinds of tests. This discomfort was so bad, I could barely sit. I would feel a throbbing there.
I tried it all. I got 2 injections in there of cortisone, never helped. Tried meds, acunpuncture, nothing helped. The only thing that helped was sitting on not too soft or hard surfaces (most couches KILL me), and sitting on a pillow t hat has a cutout for a tailbone. In doing that, I took the pressure off which relieved some of the inflammation.
Here I am almost 7 years later and I have to tell you, I still can't sit on some things without it bothering me. I also get some sciatic nerve flare ups due to it. I am much better but ONLY b/c I literally don't sit on certain things (forget sitting on a wooden bench or a soft couch). I am like an old lady due to this...it's so annoying. I feel for you. This is the item that saved me as much as possible.

has anyone checked you for a pilonidal cyst?? i had pain also like you are describing and had a cyst there. had to have surgery to have it removed. sometimes the cyst doesn't stick out, it could be under the skin.
just a thought, bring it up to your doc and see what they say, feel better!

Re: Anyone diagnosed with Coccydynia (pain below tailbone)?
I had this, but after a fall on ice. It happened in Montreal and was horrible. It happened on the first night of vacation, so the rest of my vacation was ruined, plus the 7 hour car ride home was LOVELY.
It took about 6 months of not being able to sit before it finally subsided. When I had to sit, as a PP said I used a pillow with a cutout at the back, and it still wasn't right.
I know its painful - feel better!
