Anyone done the Train Show at NY Botanical Garden?

This thing, I mean

If you've gone was it a weekday or a weekend??? DH really prefers going on a weekend but I suspect it'll be a MAD HOUSE, correct??? Also I wonder if there's a "better" time of day - afternoon vs. dusk/evening??

If you've gone do you recommend it??

Re: Anyone done the Train Show at NY Botanical Garden?

We have gone for the past two years and are not going this year. It really was amazing and very special the first year. But it was FREEZING. I think it was the coldest day of the year last year and that made it not as fun. Also Thomas fell over and broke so we were not able to see him last year. I think those things made us decide not to get tickets for this year.

If you have not gone, I would make every effort to go. The amazement and wonder DS had on his face seeing the trains was truly magical. I loved the buildings. I would bring hats, scarves, mittens, blankets and layer everyone. It was crowded. To get to Thomas - who is only there for one week near New Years it is an uphill walk. Wear comfortable shoes.

I was looking at this, it looks like so much fun - i would think the weekend would be a madhouse and i would aim for a weekday evening.

How old is your DS? My DD is about to be 2 and im wondering if she is too young for it

We went on a weekend - yes it was a mad house but still worth it.

We went a few years ago on a weekend, at dusk. I really liked going at that time of day, it was very nice to have everything lit up at night. There were quite a few other people there but it wasn't packed.

We went a couple of years ago. It was a very cold day but we did go over to see Thomas and then went into the children's area.

The train show is amazing but I would not bring my kids back until they are older. They wanted to touch and it's right at their level. It's crowded and some of the aisle are very tight.

We haven't gone but always wanted to....We might take just Noah this year, the twins are too small and would be in the way of everyone else I'm sure.

it'w worth it. I would rather do a week day. If you are going on a weekend, I would try to do the 1st session they offer. It is sooo crowded.
There are other things to do there also -- Gingerbread house, spice smelling, etc ... it's a nice afternoon
