Anyone dually certified and permanent?
I have dual certification and am ready to get my permanet license. My question is this...I have my two years (and then some) but all were in el. ed, not special ed. Do I still get permanently certified in spec. ed? I know it will cost me $200 rather than $100, but will it still be granted?

Re: Anyone dually certified and permanent?
i am. . . . elemetanry education (n-6) and Special Ed. (K-12).
i've taught special ed. longer than i did elementary ed. so i needed years for the elementary permanent license.
i was only a teaching assistant under my elementary ed. license, but was able to use that as year 1 of the elem. ed. requirement. I then actually used my CTT class in the city as the second elementary year (even though I was technically the special ed. teacher in the class). I did not spend $200 for my certficate.... it was a $100.00

Re: Anyone dually certified and permanent?
when i got my masters in literacy it went to permanent and skipped provisional. so i didn't have to pay twice for it. my college took care of the paperwork
i didn't have to do any hours for literacy

But do I have to apply for both or will the sp. ed one go permanent when the el. ed one becomes permanent? I'm so confused.

I think you must pay for both. I have permanent Span and ESL and I applied for both and paid for both.

you must apply for them both separately because they are 2 separate certificates.
also, i misread your question before...it will cost you $200 because it's $100 for EACH certificate, i thought you meant $200 for one....

But does it matter that I don't have 2 years in sp. ed, but rather, that I have 2 YEARS? Make sense? I'm just paranoid that I won't get my perm. cert in sp. ed and while I don't have plans to go back to sp. ed, you never know, you know?

Re: Anyone dually certified and permanent?
Im permanent in both. I paid for both. I never taught elementary education but did the coursework and filled the qualifications.Granted that was over 10 years ago and things have changed, but when the state can nail you with money, they do. Im simply glad I never have to get recertified.

Thanks everyone! I'm sorry to sound so paranoid but with NYS (and NYC), I have to be.

Re: Anyone dually certified and permanent?
I am dual certified. I filled out the paperwork twice and only sent $100. I figured they would send me a bill for the other $100. They never did.

Re: Anyone dually certified and permanent?
I have permanent 4 certifications- el ed, sped, reading and speech. The sped, speech and reading only required $100 per cert with (if I remember correctly) 2 years expierence teaching any area with a master's degree and the el ed. I had to take my video cert., CST and $100 fee. This is years ago (I've been teaching 10 years now) so requirements have changed. Your best bet is to call BOCES- either western or eastern suffolk depending on where you live/teach and they will actually walk you through the process. They are great!
