Anyone else feel like they are on the phone to the teacher all the time?
I hate it... it is SO unlike me to cause waves.
DD is in first grade and is currently being tested for learning disabilities. We're not really sure what's going on with her but there is definitely an issue. She's been getting pulled out a lot for testing, and when she reports to me that she was pulled out or missed something, I want to know what it was or what it was for! The teacher never calls me or writes me a note so I find myself calling a lot. In the past 2 weeks I've called 3 times to try to figure out what's going on. I don't think it's so crazy to want to know what my 6 year old is being tested for.
On top of that, a little girl that I don't know asked to wear her necklace the other day, refused to give it back, and when Becky asked her for it yesterday she told her no. Of course this is the ONLY kid not listed on the class address/phone number sheet, so now I'm going to have to call the teacher to get the phone number to call the mom. Another call to the school!!
Anyone who knows me knows that I am SO not the sqeaky wheel kind of person, almost to a fault. But, I feel like there is NO communication and now I have to be the annoying parent who calls all the time!! UGH!

If you know she's being tested for a learning disability (which you had to give approval for), I don't understand why you're calling to find out what she's being pulled out for?? There's a whole slew of testing in many sub-areas that have to be done for the evaluation. You will get a full, detailed report when all the testing is done. Missing things in the classroom is just par for the course during this time, but it's short-lived!

No, it's not official. I haven't signed anything. The teacher called us with concerns, we had the same concerns, and she said that she would pull her out to do a few things with her, as would OT and the math specialist. At that time, the teacher said she would keep us posted regarding what was being done, her reading level, and some other points, but then she never got back in touch with us. That was call #1. Then DD came home distraught because she missed all the math 2 days in a row from being pulled and didn't know how to do her homework, so I had to call to ask for some extra worksheets so she wouldn't be totally lost. That was call #2. Then I called to see if I should have her correct the mistakes she makes on the homework or if it's something the teacher wants to see. Call #3.
I feel like such a pest!!

All the teachers in the district have an email account, but she told us at Meet the Teacher Night that she doesn't check it every day. So calling her is pretty much my only option if I want a timely response.

So far, I've emailed the teacher/school three times since school started - I feel like it's just going to be one of those years (DS is in 2nd grade). I sympathize with you!

I try not to call, but I do e-mail. I prefer e-mail.
I don't think they're going to give you that mom's phone number. We had to sign a release with our info. Maybe she wasn't into that. You can ask the teacher to contact her though.

I would call but then would follow up with an email so it's documented that you want to be alerted when your daughter is being pulled out of her regularly scheduled class for evaluations.

I think you deserve to know what is going on with your kid and what test is being done by who. How are you supposed to explain it to DD when she asks why she is being pulled? I'd want to go up to the school and talk face to face. You have to fight for your DD.
