Anyone else feeling like facebook is getting a little weird? Ex- worlds colliding?

I was reluctant to join. But I did. At first I was happy hearing from old friends etc. now I feel like my life is everyones business. My aunt is friends with my best friend, and extended family from my husbands side, people get annoyed if you do not crop them out of pictures,people put up pics without your permission,I do not like to get tagged in a pic, my old Boyfriend sends me a message saying hi....My reaction- I did nothing- but... hello, you broke my heart 17 yrs ago, why would I want to say anything to you, I am a happily married woman for 5 plus yrs, I have gone on with my life, .... I am not too sure if I should just not really go on it anymore, or delete the account. anyone else feel this way?

lol -- wow seems like FB is causing stress for you.

none of my family is really on there but my brother & sister -- so i don't have issues with family becoming friends with my friends...but i can see how that would annoy you.

as for old friends & ex's and such -- i think of it as just seeing what everyone is up to and chatting away once in awhile with them. i don't take it too serious.

if its causing that much drama for ya -- maybe you should either cancel it or use the privacy settings to limit what others can see on your profile.

My first boyfriend from middle school friended my mom. I thought that was totally weird. I think sometimes people are just looking for people they know to add to their friends list. Your ex probably just wants to say hi and figured if 17 years passed it would be okay. You can always choose to ignore the person if you don't want to talk to them, or block them from seeing your profile.

This is why I wont join. I want the past to be the past and leave it there. And I think putting too much info out there just feels like a total lack of privacy to me. Not for me, my family know better than to put my pics on as well. If you havent thought about me since HS, dont bother now. I prefer it that way.

To answer the OP< I would delete the acct.

just an FYI, if you do want to keep your acount for people you really want to keep in touch with, if you spend some time on the privacy settings there are many ways to control who sees what and who becomes your friend.

IMO if FB is causing you a lot of stress delete the account, it's not worth it.

FB is supposed to be just a fun way of staying in touch with old (and new) friends and maybe family.

It's not supposed to be a headache.

I hate FB.
I truly do.
If I wanted to keep in touch with you, I would have.
If I didn't, there is a reason.
No need for a great big HS reunion... no thanks!

I say, delete your account.

I did and I got a real life again!

I haven't stressed about it yet. if it came to that point though, I would delete it.

You can only give people the info you want them to know. I don't put up pics that are going to cause issues. I also don't have personal info on there that could cause me a problem later. I was once tagged in a very bad pic by a family memeber. I un-tagged myself and told them the pic was horrible of me, if a funny way. they took it down without an issue.

As for the ex's finding you... make your profile private, to the point where they can't even see your pic if they search your name. then if they email you, delete it.

Sorry its stressing you out so much, maybe you should consider deleting your account.

I deactivated my account the other day. I found FB to be one big fat pain. After the initial novelty of catching up with old friends - it gets weird. One person kept sending me "gifts" and I see this person every day at work and it became awkward.

i have no issues with it because i set many privacy settings to block only certain things to certain people. All my ex's were on myspace and we were "Friends" but after a few hi's and hello's and what is new - we stopped talking so they were there just not active as a friend. I find it nice to connect to the past and possibly network with past friends/schoolmates/bf's but the ones that were pure evil - i just never accepted as a friend.

As far as tagged photo's you can block people viewing tagged photo's of you, but yea there is a part of me that hates when a pic i hate of myself is on there and tagged as me, sometimes I delete the tag and hope no one notices IOI

I don't involve myself too much into it. What I mean is, I go on but am not that active. I don't accept friend requests from anyone but people I would actually hang with in real life. If it is causing you grief I would delete or stay off for a while

The privacy thing though......you can make everything locked....your profile, your pictures, your settings. No one can view unless they are your friend, just like myspace. Even some albums you can lock to just those friends you want to have see them. You can block your status from being posted, you can block your writing to other peoples walls. It's very simple.

As far as ex's---I see no harm, I'm happily married and I'm over the fact that I got my heart broken by them in the past, they were my stepping stones that got me to my DH. I see no harm whatsoever.

I find it a great way to catch up with people you haven't talked to in years and there were some that I've denied being my friend b/c of the pure fact that I don't want them viewing things on my page....it's my decision ya know. I don't take it so seriously.
