i also have umbrella and auto with them. SO, since they decided to drop my home owner's insurance, i am canceling all policies.

now i have to deal with finding a new company. going to be a painstaking task as many companies aren't even writing new HOI policies.

But why are they dropping you? Do you have flood insurance too?

I don't blame you, I would cancel it all too.

I am hearing this from alot of people that their HOI is being canceled. I called my INS and asked why mine took a $205 increase no claims while the most increase I ever had was $80. My INS said they are expecting a hurricane to hit Long Island. They must have a crystal Ball. I replied if we don't will I be reimbursed. Then the Agent said blame the Politics. IMO We have to help pay for Katrina.

Yes, that is what they told us. We have until June to find new HOI.

I got hit with a $200 increase from Liberty Mutual but I didn't complain because I knew when I signed with them in 2005 I was given a SWEET deal.

They were literally HALF of what I was quoted from State Farm.

We have Traveler's as well...we just received our renewal notice yesterday. BUT, we now live in NC, where I guess we are less "hurricane-prone". Chat Icon

I just got this call today from our Allstate office. I asked how many people it's affecting and she said at their office alone they are not renewing about 10 policies a month.

That's essentially what happened to us too. Our agent told me that because of the rate increase they have to cancel one policy and issue another. We ended up changing our deductible as well. Since making small claims makes you undesirable anyway, it didn't make sense to have a low deductible. We also added flood insurance to our list of insurances - not that we're too concerned being about 2 miles from the water, but the flood zones are being re-drawn and if you have flood insurance now your zone is grandfathered in. If we get re-drawn to a riskier zone we'd get stuck purchasing at a higher rate and it could be required if we're in a risky zone.

We also had to switch insurance carriers because Travelers was no longer issuing home insurance. We went to State Farm.

Alot of insurance policies are being dropped b/c they think we are going to get a hurricane like Katrina and they couldnt rebuild their homes or fulfill all their claims, so they feel they definetely wont be able to fulfill everyone's on LI...they would go broke doing it due to the cost of houses here.
