Anyone else work from home?
I recently started working from home and for the first few weeks it was really really stressful. Any tips for keeping sanity?
One thing I started doing was leaving my office (aka my bedroom, which is the problem) for a few hours. The problem with that is that my phone requires wired internet so that requires me leaving my phone, which isn't always the greatest thing.
I'm also really paranoid about being away from work. Like when I was at the office I'd go out to lunch, or I'd take a 15 minute walk sometimes in the middle of the day, but now I feel like I have to be there all the time in case I'm needed or else they'll think I'm slacking off or something.
I'm thinking of setting an inbox reminder for a daily 15 minute exerice break, either wiifit or the treadmill. I'm also MUCH more sedentary now, which is not good AT ALL

Re: Anyone else work from home?
Oooh me! (for others, we happen to work for the same company)
LOL, Jenn, seriously, are we really the only ones who work from home?
I am not really enjoying it as much as others are. I think it's kinda lonely.
I have found that taking breaks help. My job is a bit more flexible than yours though. I take a 1/2 hour break every two hours or so. I also try to start earlier in the morning than I used to. That way, I can finish earlier.
I wouldn't feel bad about taking breaks, you did that in the old world right? No one is going to think you are slacking.

I know! I thought it would be way more people.
I need to be near the phone for most of the day, but I am trying to force myself to take more breaks. It's not healthy.
I thought it would be a lot better than it is. i miss everyone.

I work from home 2 days a week and don't seem to have that problem! haha! No just kidding! It can get lonely but it definitely helps to set aside time for a lunch break. Or maybe run an errand instead. Do you have a blackberry? I take mien with me wherever I go so if I'm needed I can be reached at all times.

Re: Anyone else work from home?
I may actually be working from home in the near future, so I have been thinking about possible pitfalls a lot. We will be going wireless in the apartment so I can move from room to room to work depending on where I feel the most comfortable that day. My schedule doesn't require me to be locked down to a desk from 9-5 though, so taking a random break mid-day is not a big deal.

Re: Anyone else work from home?
I worked from home for about 6 months last year. I'm a total loner, so I had expected to love it, but I couldn't wait to get back into a normal office and be surrounded by people.
I would take an hour off in the afternoon to go to the gym, but otherwise I stayed home alllllll day.
Plus I gained like 10 pounds just because I had all-day access to food and snacks.
Overall I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it and learn it wasn't for me.

We work for a test prep company which has recently moved most of its employees to a virtual workforce.

There are all sorts of positions, but they fall under sales, academic management and service. Jenn's role is a mixture of all three, I am in a sales role. There are lots of different opportunities.

Re: Anyone else work from home?
DH has been working from home for almost 4 years.
1. remember you are entitled to lunch. You would leave your office, so do the same at home - even if it's to the kitchen/gym/walk.
2. DH drops DS at the busstop in the morning and picks hi up at lunch - i think that helps him to get out and get dressed!
3. can you get a cell phone? DH always has his, so he will often get called while golfing
